After losing Jezebel we've felt a bit flat here and I opened our first Christmas card yesterday feeling Bar, humbug.
Inside were a letter and two pics of a mare we bred and sold as a three year old, we would have liked to keep her but money got tight after William's vet bills, so I sold her to a super home with their own farm and their old horses retired there for life. I could have got more money but I liked the girl and felt Tally deserved a home for life.

Here are a couple of extracts from her letter.
"I am absolutely thrilled to bits with Tally, she has been a real gem to own, she is so sweet natured and kind. We started off last September just hacking round the farm and villages, and she took everything in her stride, not at all fussed by loud tractors with rattly trailers or even the smelly pigs!
Now things have quietened down with our business we have enjpoyed a few days out following the hounds which she enjoys-she is much better behaved than some of the older more experienced horses and many people have commented on what a nice mare she is! She is usually pretty laid back and never naughty or nasty.
We are hoping to go indoor jumping over the next few months, we pop the odd fence when hacking round the farm, she always remembers where the jumps are and makes sure we go that way for a jump!
I hope to show her as a lightweight hunter and ridden hack next year at local shows.
I want to thank you again for letting me buy Tally, she means a lot to me and you can be assured she will have a happy home here indefinitely."

As a breeder this type of letter actually means more to me than lots of competition wins. here is somebody truly enjoying their horse and the horse having a great life too.
The mare is by our stallion ex a little event bred mare, so if she ever does want to compete higher, she should do that too.

Doesn't the happiness shine out of them

I hope this is the right place to post this news. I didn't want to make a big song-and-dance by posting a whole new thread or anything, but just had to tell you that I received my copy of The Arabian Magazine yesterday (it's the main UK Arab mag, and December is their big 'Stallion Issue') and found a feature article entitled 'UK Stallions'. The first paragraph, as one would expect, was about this year's Supreme National Champion and Leading Sire at the national show...

The next (longer!) paragraph said this:

"A very prominent stallion who has his first crop of foals this year is H Tobago (Psytadel x Teeba). This young stallion had a large variety of mares last year and it is interesting to see how well he has crossed with a number of different strains of mares. He really seems to have stamped his stock, both the pure-bred foals and the part breds, born both in the UK and in Europe, with one of his foals becoming Foal Champion at the British Nationals this year."

There was more text about Tobago than about any other UK stallion!

And he was mentioned also in an article on 'Stallion Dynasties', where one of the 2 world-renowned sires featured was his grand-sire Padrons Psyche. Tobago is mentioned as one of Padrons Psyche's son Psytadel's "famous children"!

Sorry, this is very self-indulgent, I know, but I'm feeling rather chuffed that my boy is making such a name for himself in the Arab-breeding world. I'm especially proud of him because unlike all the other top Arab sires he has no mares of his own (he is my only horse) and has to rely entirely on whatever outside mares he can attract.

But of course he's now 4 and has to go out and prove himself under saddle as well. Watch this space...
