When you chip (obs responsible breeders do this):) how are you registering the chips? I noted a few of you mentioned your chips/tattoos in my other post re breeders:)
I assume unlike us you don't reg them solely in your name as Im assuming purchaser would not be best pleased with that? do you reg in the breeders/your name and add yourself as a second contact?
How are you doing it?
How are the tats registered?

We do sometimes add the owner as a contact once the dog has settled in well or lately we had a few dogs relocated abroad. But we always remain on the chip. Just to explain:p

Just for me to better explain procedure when adding to my "what to look out for when buying from a responsible breeder guide"

This is the first litter I have had chipped, I left the forms blank, on vets advice, so they could go straight in to their new owners name without any extra charge. I didn't actually realise I could put myself as a second contact.
They are tattooed also, done in my name as the breeder and then the new owner has to pay to have them transferred (£25 which I do think is a bit steep). I have found over the years that many people do not bother transferring the tattoo details into their own name as obviously I have the information to link dog and owner should they ever be lost (and found). The NDTR have been notified to always contact me if one of the dogs is ever found, as well as the owner.

Problem with leaving yourself as second contact has previously been the new keeper can take you off if they change details.
Petlog has now started allowing the original chipper/owner to keep a contact number with the chip so rescues and breeders can remain as a back up.

Yep correct s4s good point re 1st contact and the rescue/breeder extra add on (not to be changed) is obs what I was thinking was the norm, obs ours are non transferable chips, so if someone tried to change them basically it's denied and we are informed.
so tats seems a more secure back up for breeders? would you say, unless you use the breeder add on option? does anyone do that now?

Popping out? will catch up on answers.

I'm not aware of the dual registration process s4s...have you used it? I will enquire before I send my forms off if so.
At the moment I get the forms left with me, fill them in when the new owners collect, and send them all off together once I have them all filled in

It was announced by Petlog at the KC breed rescue conference last month. Don't know about the forms yet.

I will ring on weds and see if its possible to do yet then, would be very happy if so. There is nothing on the forms as of yet but then these things take time to kick into action

Our breeder registered the pups in her name, and then when we brought them home, we provided the KC reg and PetTrack changed them into our name with hers as a secondary (in case of any problems)

As we have so many animals registered with PT, we paid a one off amount; we can change details on our account with them for no extra cost.

MJ do you have the option to remove the breeder if you wish?
It's definately worth looking into for breeders and requesting the (breeder add on) not to be removed otherwise if the purchaser does discard of the pup you still wont get to know.

I think we intially we only started with the non transferable chip thing when one of our dogs ended up in the pound:mad: they tried to contact the owner (who adopted from us) and she never replied, the pound actually contacted the chip company to find out where the chip was purchased (good job too) and it showed our rescue as the purchaser. We where contacted and collected him that day.
When we called the adopter and asked how the dog had settled she said "oh fine" lying scroat! when we informed her we had him:rolleyes: she nearly died!.....she has given him to her friend as she fell pregnant and could no longer keep him, he has gone missing from her friends 3 weeks previous:mad::mad: from that day forward our chips became non transferable and reged to us. Always one to spoil it.

Obs breeders cannot do the non transfer thing but there def should be an option to see your details on at all times.

I'm not sure, never looked into it, as we're happy to have the breeder there if anything happens.

I'll ring them this week and find out - it's an interesting point.

When/if we breed I would want to go for non transferable (or at least have my name on there as well).

Even if chipping becomes compulsery I will stick with tattooing as well, except the tattoo will stay in my name only.I want that protection for my puppies ,it works wonderfully.:)
