Breeding an Anglo-Arab

Okay, looking for a stallion to use next year to my Purebred Arabian Mare.

She's 15hh, 8yo and has bred one foal well before we had her. Successfully competed in all pony club activities. Temperament to die for, loving, level headed but with that cheekiness to her.

Over next year going to do more and hopefully done few one day events but I will then want a foal from her to affiliate and do up to novice eventing.

My mare is chestnut, and hopefully wanting something that is guaranteed to throw off a black or dark bay horse. Just asking for some advice on what TB stallion will be good to use. Want something proven with his eventing 4 star or more. Something 16.1hh and above so I get something bigger and nothing too tricky, sharp or just a nightmare to train.
Consistancy is also important, i'm a quite rider and never finish half a job, but this will be my first youngster to bring on and all though will have him/her profesh backed don't want anything with a screw loose

So just any advice will be great, and if anyone knows of any stallions suitable, and I mean KNOWS not just been told.

Firstly I will just point out that I am not an experienced breeder - far from it!! Having just put my mare to stud for the first time

However, having done an awful lot of research, it often cropped up that the mare determines the size of the foal and that it is not always wise to put a small mare to a large stallion, so you may want to consider what height of youngster you want to produce.

I am sure there will be far more experienced posters soon who will either agree with me or tell me its a load of old poppycock

Okay, my mare has racing lines and endurance and is i beleive russian arabian x french.

Ah looks like i may be considering buying a foal without putting anything to my mare then. She's only 15hh and was hoping to get something 15.3hh plus.

What are the chances in this then?

Our 15hh Welsh x QH went to a 16.1 Trak & the 3yo is now a fraction off 16hh. I sent a 14.3hh PBA (Welsh x Arab) to a 15hh Arab & got a 15.2hh. My understanding was arabs tended to breed up & that def happened in that instance. There is a livery with a coloured pony mare who when put to Dextres Puzzle produces huge offspring the 1st 2 were 16.3 & 16.2 & she is only about 14.2hh. Though in her case being a traditional/gypsy she could have large ancestors.

It would be cheaper for you to buy a foal but if you do breed & have concerns over the height of the stallion ask you vet. I am not sure how different it is to putting the TB mare to the Arab, except I think they tend to breed the bigger AA's.
 
I think the size is a risk i'll have to take.
I've known a stallion who made 16.3hh.
he was a purebred connemara and was out of
2 15hh horses so i can't predict too much eye?

I'll start looking further back as i have my mares
breeding so i can look at her full history a lot closer, thanks.

You would need a stallion who is homozygous black, i.e. "EE". This will mean that he can't throw a red based foal even when put to a red mare. The term "homozygous black" just means that he doesn't carry red factor, but he himself may be black or bay, depending on his agouti status.
 
Meant to add, it would be a little more difficult to specify the type of bay that you may end up with, due to the different types of agouti making different types of bays.
