wats the oldest any of you know a horse 2 be to still have her covered, only my mare is 15 now so im not going to breed from her again, she gave me 2 beautiful bay fillies, , but a friend of mine said she will just stop producin wen she had enough, sounds strange 2 me, any how i keep her off spring and dont want to wear her out just cause shes good ,...

bracken is at stud at the mo and she is 19!! had her last foal 3 years ago. i think mares will let you know when they have had enough my friends old broodmare was in foal at the age of 25 and she sadly gave birth to a full formed stillborn at 10 months pregnant think the mare's body had had enough and she just gave birth, my friend decided enough was enough and never put her back into foal.

15 is no age. Mines 19 looks and acts a lot younger. The stud said they'd had two 26 yr old mares. If she looks well and still cycles Ok why not?

My mare is 17 and just had a colt by polling, they are both doing great, I wont breed from her again though she struggled a bit giving birth so wont put her through it again

15 seems young to stop breeding! As long as your mare is happy having babies, there is no reason why she should stop at 15.

But if you have no room or time for any more foals, then of course there is no point in breeding more just because she can! Unless her foals are truly outstanding and you have people queuing up to buy them...

thats the problem, lol, she fires them out, she is shire x app, and she just gives birth to massive foals with the biggest legs ive seen, her foal was 11 hands, and she takes orpans 2, she l, let anyone have a drink,.i cant bear to sell any, thats why im gona stop, last one next year .

A lot of mares start their breeding career intheir mid teens after a ridden career so 15 is definiely not too old ina lot of cases!

I have a 17 year old and a 19 year old in foal for next year and as long as they continue to cope with the pregnancy and the labours as well as they are then they will carry on being broodmares!

Most mares start at 15 and over, my oldest was 28 when she had her last, she started at 17yrs I purchased her as a 4 year old and she lived into her mid 30's still cycled and still trotted in to the Stallions every time she was in season right up to the end! I also have had several in their 20yrs in foal, if they are healthy and fit and they take then why not as long as the mare is happy and healthy!
