WTF is all this about, why the hell would someone get a rescue dog with no history, or health tests that was in danger of being placed in a body bag and breed from it:confused:

I had a conversation today with a couple that did just that (obs loads of people do this and some even scan the pounds and free ads for a free breeding machine), it was like banging my head off a wall, the answer of course was MONEY and ignorance:rolleyes:
The reason the convo started was pretty ironic too, they phoned for financial assistance cos a puppy they bred from the bitch was poorly and they had been quoted (too much), "oh well jsut phone a rescue they will help"
I did my usual have you ever though of seeking employment"

Will people ever become less selfish.....or is there little hope?

I really think there is little hope.... I see it everywhere I go nowadays, people think they can breed to make a quick buck and sod the consequences to the poor animal :mad::mad::mad:

TBH, with no disrespect to those who post them because I really like you all, I couldnt bring myself to scan the free ads or wherever to find examples of back street breeding, or wierd crosses of breeds, I can see all of that much closer to home :mad::mad:

I don't have any knowledge of rescues, but I genuinely thought they all neutered the dogs that came into them. I know it would cost them more money, but surely it's worth it? I don't think rescue dogs should be seen as the cheap option instead of buying a dog, if you know what I mean, so surely they could pass the cost onto the adopter?

Idiots! and saddly I agree with Gazey, no I can't see there is much hope for any major change in the fact a large proportion of our race are complete morons :(
I mentioned earlier the labradoodle pup we met today, owners were thick as 'can they say hello, is she friendly?!' errr she's hiding under a table growling...what the hell do you think?! Anyway I digress...they actually asked me 'how much does one of those cost then?' I answered honestly, to which they replied 'oh close to the price of one of these then, he was a little cheaper'.....to which I replied 'er well, yes, but mine is a health tested, purebred, kc registered dog and yours is a crossbreed'...I stopped myself there I was about to launch into a full rant that would have included calling them complete and utter nobheads for paying so much money for what is essentially a mongrel etc etc etc. Honestly how do some peoples brains work, fancy the first thought upon meeting a dog being how much it costs?!

I think that 'proper' rescue organisations do neuter before they find a home for any animal, but there are so many examples of people 'rescuing' an animal themselves then deciding that they would like a litter from it etc etc...:(

I work with someone who is basically a puppy farmer, has all the right breeds to produce the ridiculous designer crosses, couldnt give a **** about their dogs, just sees them as money making machines

I just typed a rant to be proud off and then got kicked off when I tried to post!!:mad::mad: Wasn't even swearing - honest!!;):D:D:D

In brief to use Pedantics favourite phrase - Nation of A*seholes! If I was on the front line like CAYLA - and I take my hat off ot her and others like her - I would probably just punch all the morons!!:eek::eek::rolleyes: That would be my caring understanding side coming out......;):D:D:D

Sod it... anyone want to buy a russla?!! :p :D Think I could be the first to try this new rare designer breed...and you have to admit it's a catchy bloody name ;) How much you think for a pup? 600 easy I reckon......
It really does make me mad beyond belief, but honestly I've tried talking sense into some of these tit heads and it's like talking to a brick wall, they cannot seem to grasp the problem at all!

Punching them all doesn't sound like a bad idea! Like gazey I keep away from the free ads cos they drive me mad, but there are plenty of postcards in the local pet shop which make me want to scream. Slightly o/t but stil on the subject of idiot owners, I saw a lovely long coated GSD tied up outside local "Home Bargains" yesterday. Didn't go up to him as I think that is foolish when a dog is unattended, but did notice the poor lad was tied up with his lead attached to a pinch collar. As I have said many times on here I have no problem with these, or electric collars in the right hands, but what sort of idiotuses one to tie a dog up . I hung round for a bit hoping owners would reappear and I could point out the error of their ways, ;)but had to get back to work.

Cats are an easier option than dogs. But they dont make as much money.£20- £50 per kitten! Cash in hand. ;) You dont even have to lose your benefits.
It wont affect your tax credits either.

LOL - do people actually pay for kittens for then? I never have!!

Daughter was looking at Border Terrier pups for sale on the net today - I couldn't believe how much money they are to buy - I have never paid much for a dog at all!!

£500 for a Border then, so if you buy a bitch, breed from it, it has 6 pups and they all sell at £500 - there's £3K minus stud fee and possibly a vets fee or two - but My God you are quids in.

No wonder every Tom, Dick and Harry are breeding them. I have always had dogs so this breeding game has escaped me up til now. I know the collie pup we have just got is a bitch but we will be having her spayed as soon as possible - I can't be doing with seasons!

The people we bought her from were lovely, they had put off quite a few potential purchasers who lived in towns etc who would have provided completely unsuitable homes for a Border Collie from working stock. I was completely honest and descibed our set up here, yes I work every day, but my dogs get a very active, country lifestyle..........however, she only had my word on that, for all she knew I could have lived in a flat in the middle of a town and just lied! She had had calls asking about upgrading their pedigrees for future breeding and she soon finished those conversations but its such a shame that every breeder couldn't be so dilligent and not just see the pound signs.

Years ago you used to have to have a license to own a dog - wouldn't it be great if you had to have a license to breed - perhaps that would go some way towards sorting the chaff from the wheat.

Printable words fail me and have just seen on the back of a county show schedule advertised a Labradoodle club fund day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just like they are a real breed!!!!!!

You actually do have to have a license to breed, but only if you have more than 2 breeding bitches, so most of the backyard breeders would probably not need one. Like most of these things, all that happens is the responsible people have them, and the others don't. It is enforced by the local council, and I think it is pure chance if the council in an area does checks or just issues them. Having said that I have never had a licence even when I was breeding on a regular basis (or the dogs were :o)) as I never had more than 2 bitches of breeding age.

Whereas I want my male rescue collie neutered as soon as and get told by a vet nurse to leave him entire until he's 2 or 3 'to let his personality develop'..... I'm ringing back to speak to a vet - he's 6 months old and I want them off soonish!

Thats frigging ridiculous! Make sure when you ring the vet that you let them know what kind of moron they are employing dishing out 'advice' like that!!!

RE: rescues neutering - agree the good ones do... and then have people querying the rescues fee ... from a charity that has paid for spaying, chipping, general vet checks, kennel fees ....

Anyway just to cheer you lot up.. I helped take a staffie litter into rescue. Son had decided to breed from mums dog when she was away. Mum came home, they did try to sell the pups but she didn't like the people who were interested so gave most of the puppies to the rescue. Son was most put out. Tough!! Oh and yes, staffie rescue did press for staffie mum to be spayed so this wouldn't happen again...
