hi my friend has just bought a lhasa apso puppy, ive just been looking at his breeding certificate and looking all the way down the line the same names keep popping up. Can some one tell me if the breeding dogs can have the same name because in the horsey world i know you cant and looking on this cert he is interbreed loads of times. She is ringing the kennel club tom.

some line breeding can occur i.e grandfather to granddaughter this is often done when there is an outstanding dog and to help 'fix' desirable traits or imporve breed type - it should not be done too often within one pedigree and if your has the same names cropping up then it could be that this is a case of a non too reputable breeder using her own dogs over and over again rather than introducing ( and paying out for) outside lines. The KC can do nothing because clsoe line breeding is not illegal and in some rare breeds is done to maintain the breed.

grandfather to grand daughter is done alot, it is a great combination and some stunning dogs comes from that matching, it is no problem as far as we as a kennel know.
