Does anybody have any idea when the latest time would be to put something into foal?

I thought it was all done around March/April time but I know or someones mare who didnt take for ages and ended up taking in August.

Just that we want to put Spider in foal but we need to make sure the operation on her hinds has been a success so we need to give it a few more mths really, well till at least June ish time really.

Whats your thoughts?

Hi,

June is a good time to put a mare in foal. I would never consider putting my mare in foal before May as the foal is then born from April, when the spring grass is there to meet the mare's requirement (she is lactating and needs loads of energy). Plus the weather is milder and if I was a newborn foal, I know I'd rather be born in the spring and be warm frolicking in a field then born in January/February and rugged and kept in a stable!

All my foals were born in May / June and it was a joy to see them out from day one.

All the best with Spidey,
Marie
