Do people still research breeding lines before buying pedigrees? I am very much into the scottie lines but sometimes I see adverts for pedigree scotties and they dont bother putting the lines on the advert. If I was looking for another one (I am not) but I wouldnt even bother ringing up. I was looking on a dog forum and someone had some for sale and another person had asked what lines they were from and they didnt know?

Arent lines important any more?

Just wondering.

They are important but if you phone up they should know them.
Anyone breeding should do their research and one of the buying tips I gve is ask who the grantparents are -if they don't know off the top of their head maybe they haven't bred for the right reasons. ( although someone saying he's by so & so's champion....... his name is Fred, what is his registered name? Hang on a minute while I check. can be quite normal)
Putting them in the advert is pretty meaningless unless it is "By Ch xxx xxx" or a full pedigree is listed.
Too many puppies are just bred because the parents have gonads.

Breeding lines and certified health tests are crucial in breeding and buying any ped dog.In all breeds there will be certain lines that might be dodgey and best avoided due to health or temperament problems, there are lines in my own breed I absolutely won`t go near when planning a breeding.
Decent caring breeders will have health tests cets included in their puppy pack,if not ..avoid.

PSML at your last line S4S!

I like to see the registered names of the parents and their qualifications as I can usually take it from there using a number of databases, also nice to have any notable dogs back in the pedigree mentioned.

Also, what lines they DON'T have are as important to me as what lines they do have. There are certain lines I would no longer touch with a barge pole.

This is exactly what I am saying. If you have bred a pedigree KC registered dog you should know the lines and put them in the advert, like By xxxx with Whatever lines. Pedigrees are pedigrees for a reason, and a pedigree counts with the breed lines. otherwise just breed any old dog to any old dog which a lot of people (I wont call them breeders because they arent breeders) do. Hence if you take your pedigree to be mated the stud dog owner should want to see the pedigree and have a good look at her before mating.
