breeding people please!

I've personally never known a retained testicle to drop on its own if it hasn't dropped by the time they're 2 years old but other people may have. I had a cryporchid once and I gave him till around 18 months/2 years (can't remember the exact timeframe) and then had him castrated at the surgery. The retained testicle was difficult to locate and there was no way it would have dropped of it's own accord. The cost was significantly higher than a regular castration so you'll need to budget for that.

What SF said - it's uncommon for them to drop so late if they're going to at all. If they don't, it's an expensive and invasive castration.

ask your vet. regional and temporal variations, mean you're unlikely to get an accurate estimate on here.

Ah so there was a catch with the colt. I hope it can be sorted out and is straight forward.
Sounds like you need to ask your vet what options etc are. They said they are overstocked too(I think in the advert)...make sure they are not passing on a problem which sounds like you are checking all avenues. Looks a nice colt.

Let us know how you get on or what u decide but Good luck.

You should budget spending between £1,000 to £1,800 for a cryptorchid castration. Many cryptorchids are given away or sold for little money because often the cost of castration is more than the value of the youngstock. With better bred youngsters the cost of castration is easier but it still makes a lower overall profit on selling. Cryptos should never be bred from so there is no alternative but to swallow the cost and have them operated on.

One of mine didnt drop till the March of his third year. I was lucky in that I could run him on. Its also worth getting the vet out and hiving them look, a fair amount of times they sedate them to geld them and the missing one drops :)
