i know about as much on this topic as i do about hair and make-up but how soon would you put a mare back into foal after having one?

A girl i know sent hers back to stud a few weeks after having one is that about right?

i felt a bit sorry for the mare.
 
Yup, otherwise if they don't take, you are getting a later and later foal...

They have a foal heat, then you breed them on the next one.

oh right might have a look i dont and im not really interested in breeding myself but as a pregnant person after i have this one if someone ships me off to get me pregnant again i wouldnt be very happy lol.

I know people do breed pretty much straight after but just wondered if thats how its done usually i just feel sorry for her been a baby machine.
 
i think its up to the person, i personally dont think i would as would be horrible to be pregnant and have youngster still suckling! although if i had a mare who foaled early i.e jan/feb/march and i wanted a foal for the next year i would look at coverin her may/june and have a late baby then that way the foal is only on the mum for a little bit of the pregnancy. would also depend on how she coped with the previous pregnancy and if you are wantin to get mare back in to work/compete if that was the case i would wait till foal was 1 then look at puttin back in!
 
yeah it would probably depend on your circumstanses this foal sold really quickly so i think its mainly a money thing and the mare is a nasty piece of work she mentioned she was doing it to calm her down [i fail to see the logic the mare had 2 foals before she got her an had another a month or so ago and its still a nutter.]
 
Bloom!!.................thats one word for it!! Bracken looked like a huge barrel with twigs stickin out for legs!! never knew that horses could get that big!!!!..................never noticed the chill bit though!! shes relativley calm most of the time anyway never stopped her buckin and tankin of with me so she could keep up with her boyfriend tho!!....
