BREEDS YOU DISLIKE/HATE

Minis!

i don't hate the horses, more the sort of ethics. just that they're often really mutated, and it seems everyone who owns one breeds it, even if it's got bad confo/personality, and they can't really do a lot... xD

i also don't like 'Halter Type' arabs and quarter horses.

Well, there's a lot I wouldn't go to see if I was buying a horse, and there are many I love to see, but wouldn't suit me, arabs for instance are gorgeous but wouldn't work for me riding wise!

So what I LIKE, as oppose to DISLIKE, is a horse that doesn't stand on my feet, knock me over, barge past me. Doesn't clout my head with his, doesn't cart me anywhere, and that lives out and doesn't care if he doesn't get ridden for a couple of weeks! So laid back, good doer, kind and not a lunatic. Who cares on the breed?

At least you know I won't come and steal Donkey from you! No, I totally understand your love affair with CBs, Donkey in particular but the ones I have met have been the real pain in the ar*e ones that want to walk all over you!

also don't like the american saddlebred/walking horse.

i don't mind the actual horse, not really my type, but they have nice heads and look good pootling around in the pasture, i just don't like the things that are done to them so they can be shown. (unnaturally long feet, weighted boots, tail set harness ect)

Actually Fleur is the most beautiful horse I have ever owned and soooooo talented - but she was also the most difficult mare to ride - and this was the opinion of professional riders so it was not all me being a muppet.

Maybe you got the good ones - maybe all the naughty ones seem to collect where I go - there were 4 hann x tbs on the yard where I was at - and all had a reputation for nice temperaments but difficult.

Hence my love for the gypsy cob - so laid back and fun, if not as beautiful as a hann x tb to look at to most people.

I don't hate any, just prefer some to others!

Not a fan of Hannos, despite many of them being enormously talented - I've found some of the ones I've known to be arrogant and stubborn.
Wouldn't own an arab, they just don't appeal to me. Don't mind watching them when they're doing well at something but they're not my cup of tea.
Have known some cobs be the most bloody minded, strong, stubborn things, and definitely not novice hacks!

But I think all breeds have their bad examples, and I've liked individual examples of these breeds, they're just not what I'd choose if I was looking.....

shitlands - loathe rather than hate - except when they are doing a job of work and not being over petted little spoilt laminitic monsters

overweight horses of any breed but particularly cobs - not when they are in good condition but when they are a load of blubber

TBs with flat feet inbred for flat racing - useless as they are perpetually unsound with bruised soles - known two - no patience for the endless farriers bills and endless lameness now

Breeds that I wouldn't say were my cup of tea are, arabs, warmbloods, tb's, shetlands, Welsh A's. I really like native ponies, many of the spanish breeds, ID's, cob types.

Not mad keen on Hafflingers. In my experience they are just too clever, strong minded and tough to make reliable riding horses and a lot of them are very strong on the ground as well. They are capable little ponies but often too smart for children and often too small for adults. JMO - I'm sure there are exception to this!

I don't hate or even dislike any breed - or indeed any horse - per se . Most are attractive to someone, and most have their uses and talents - 'horses for courses', etc.

But I do object to people breeding from fugly misshapen useless unsound rubbish, just because they are coloured or spotty! (Have a look at the 'fuglyhorseoftheday' blog if you want examples of stupid irresponsible breeding...)

For myself, I would only ever want Arabs. I am very happy with my Arab stally, but I do realize he would not be everyone's cup of tea, especially as he is one of those refined, super-pretty show-Arabs that some people can't stand!

It's funny, isn't it, that I look at this....

...and think 'ahhh - dream-horse', whereas other people can look at the same photo and think 'ugh - too fine and flighty'?

Still, life would be very dull if we all had exactly the same tastes. And if we all wanted pretty Arabs or hairy cobs or whatever, there wouldn't be enough to go round...

I dislike hair. I think hair on cobs is vile, that said I have a naturally very hairy cob, and some bloody good clipper blades. Yes, if I could have a hairless breed of cob I would, but I can't and MontyCob, bless his moustache and hi fluffy feathers has tones of the stuff, but he is a bloody good hunter, and for that I put up with hours of dehairing!
I don't get along with Arabs. My opinion is biased and unfair as I have only ever met three, all liveries and all spawn of satan, they triggered and fueled my dislike of them.

I am not a fan of hairy cobs. Well not really a fan of cobs at all really but I do see the odd one I think looks nice. I wouldnt say I dislike them as I love all horses, I am just not keen on their apperance.

I'm another who doesn't dislike any breed or any horse but would prefer not to own some breeds. I'm not overly fond of arabs, however, one of my favourite horses of all time is an arab X and there are many that I think are just gorgeous. I would also not own a Spanish horse, a friesian, a hairy fat cob or a halter type QH (but love QH's in general) but I've met individual horses for each of those breeds that I really like. All just a personal preference really, life would be awfully boring if we all like the same things!

Dislike none. Wouldn't buy a cob or other middle/heavyweight. Love Arabs except for the really overbred ones with Twiglet legs, pop eyes and exaggeratedly dished faces.

The three I've had have all been very different - but none of them all that easy. I always thought it was me being a muppet when I got into problems though, their being pretty and talented blinds me to their faults
grin.gif

The ones that really scare me are the ponies

Not a Warmblood fan so wouldnt go out to buy one specifically, however a good horse is a good horse and if one came along that fitted the bill I wouldnt refuse it because its a WB..

Genuinely though I cant think of a breed I dislike - I like em all!!!

I look at Tobago and think - stunning!! Will make a fantastic dressage horse as he has super paces... will carry a man all day long as he has huge lungs & stamina.... wil rarely have any leg problems as he has the highest bone density of any breed, but most of all, will be a true friend and will never ever bore you as he will always be inquisitive and eager to learn!
grin.gif

I don't hate or dislike any breed - I will always have an Arab as my first horse, but wouldn't rule out any other breed if they suited me.

To be honest I find WBs a bit thick and I lose patience with them very easily as they just don't pick up stuff as quick as Arabs.... I rode a fantastic schoolmaster on Saturday... did passage, piaffe, flying changes etc and had the time of my life! Sunday I got on my boy for the first time in 4 weeks (after riding various WBs and others) and had the biggest smile on my face - even his walk is a 100 times better than anything else I have ever sat on
grin.gif

Not keen on arabs-sorry

Beautiful to look at but thats where the interest ends im afraid, many seem too hot headed to be versatile and would worry far too much about them hurting themselves in the field.

Is there a breed of horse or pony that you really dont like, mine is big fat hairy cobs!

I like them all - but my favourites are big, fat, hairy and heavy

- and little mini ponies

Thanks Pasha! And you are spot-on about the intelligence, eagerness to learn, stamina, tough legs, etc. And about never being bored! I love the way they are so quick-thinking. My boy is the only Arab on an eventing stud/training yard, and the YO always says that his brain works at twice the speed of all the other horses...
smile.gif

Gosh, though - I'm amazed at how many people don't like Arabs!
frown.gif
We Arab-lovers seem to be in a bit of a minority on here!
frown.gif

I wouldnt put any time into anything badly put together. I like good examples of every breed. Some breeds I find more unattractive than others- gelderlanders, arabs, thick-set cobs and a few others

I think arabs are extremely pretty, when we had them on livery I was always afraid of braking them
blush.gif
they are so dinky. However the ones I looked after were very flightly ans silly. I can't group it to all arabs and like to think I have an open mind. I have a distinct type of horse I like- an Irish one, and I don't seem to stray much outside of the boarders when it comes to looking for them. I have my horses to do a rather demanding jobs, which takes a fair bit of brains, a lot of trust and a very sturdy jump. Hunting an arab for me would not be an exciting task, but our old livery travelled the country doing enduros and dressage with hers and I had no problem watching them.
I always saw Arabs to be one or two steps ahead of me, Nemo knew what I was going to do before I did, they are very clever horses!

I always thought I didn't like arabs and said Id never have one - I have ended up with 2 part breds in my time and both were extremely intelligent super ponies! I do think pure arabs look a bit odd under saddle but appreciate them in-hand. I also don't really have any interest in Clydesdales / Shires etc. Anything overly chunky and hairy I guess!

I personally don't fancy cobs (not welsh cobs, they're lovely!) - simply not my type. I also would probably never buy another warmblood...
