So, there are some breeds of horses that I just plain don't like. I will be honest and say a lot of it is how they look (yes, I can be that shallow) and I would need a LOT of persuading to ever go and look at one with a view to buy. For me its just a gut instinct type thing. Anybody else out there have some breeds that are just REALLY not their cup of tea?

So mine are:

Welsh A's (look like pigs - however I do like the Bs Cs and Ds)
Arabs (see above)
Fresians... so sick of seeing them over here and they are just barge horses (my OH is at a loss to see why they are so revered)
Gelderlanders/Groningens (just hate the way the are put together - and I have photos of one with possibly the worst conformation of any horse I've EVER seen)
Quarter horses (looks like someone got the front of one horse and glued it to the back end of another)
Anything with a wall eye
ETS: and cobs (tinkers as they are known here)

I've probably missed something off as well but those are my main ones. Now I'm not saying that they are not nice horses and aren't great at the jobs they are given, they are just not for me

Dutch Warmbloods (Dumbloods!)

Hanovarians..equally Dumb!

Arabs..not because they look like pigs(?)..just never liked them.

i have to say that some of the recent breeding of Sec A's leaves alot to be desired, but an old fashioned true A certainly doesnt look like a pig!

TB's..our personalities don't match!

Will agree about Wall-Eyes...

but not the Tinkers bit...Cobs and Tinkers Pony's are two differeing types of pony.

Fjords odd looking things

Hafflingers..odd looking meat ponies.

Sorry to say but mine is Cleveland Bays i have had dealings with 3 of then and they have all been sweetness and like and the all of a sudden just gone nuts so unpredictable and lazy. This is only my experience there might be some nice ones but i haven’t seen any.

Hehe, I have Dumblood

Bless her.

Yeah, I may have gotten confused with the tinkers/cobs... not speaking the native language here leaves a little to be desired at times.

Also agree with haflingers... not only meat ponies but evil little buggers too.

I don't tend to write off entire breeds, its often "modernisation" of them that I don't like. For example

Modern friesians: Swan necked and overly leggy to look "flashy" to the novices.

ID X TB's that are marketed at pure ID's. Apparently 75% of pure ID's have up to a quarter TB blood.

I pretty much don't like any american breeds, again falsely flashy with the exception of mustangs (very hardy and I imagine usful but they look so corse!) and QH who the majority of look like they're on steroids.

Over height heavy horses are a particular bug bare and espeically apparent in shires (and even clydies now) who are show bred for height and loose all type and couldn't do a days work if they tried, not that many would as temperament also seems to go.

I think thats about it....

Cobs in general . . . . and coloured cobs in particular
"American" breeds (or should I say "abominations")

. . . and I'm not really a native pony person although I have somehow managed to accumulate 2 x NFs and half a Welsh A (part own with a friend!) but I don't do clompy and hairy . . . .

pure bred Clevelands, the most obstinate beasts on the planet imho. but i've known some exceptional part-breds, so nothing against them!
other than that, nothing... i take them as they come, and would rather have a lovely heffalumpy gypsy cob who is an absolute saint and does everything asked of him to the best of his ability, than a supremely well-bred good-looking horse who has the worst attitude in the world! i love wall eyes, i love coloured, appys, pallys, but i love a good bay, nothing against chestnuts, etc etc.
i detest a certain types of horse (disobliging, won't work with you, unreasonable, illogically spooky etc), and in my experience this type can be of ANY breed!

I have never seen an Arab that looked like a pig but I've seen plenty of Warmbloods that look like donkeys.

The only horse's I'd write off on look is cobs, sorry but I just can't understand what they are useful for other than something to put a novice rider on which doesn't move too quickly.

Welsh A's - agree with the pig comment (ducks)
Random coloureds...(e.g.no-breeds but cost 2K because theyve got patches)
Exmoors....(one in particular Grrrrrrrr)
Fjords....
Small haffies

Breeds I like......
Arabs/Anglo arabs
The larger/taller Haffies if they're not too chunky
Andalusians

....yes I am a sucker for a pretty face/unusual colour/bit of flash.....although saying that I also own a stunner of a Highland

More fighting talk, and you would not get Part breds without pure breds.

I am not opposed to any breed of horse but would not own anything other than pure bred Cleveland Bays - but you have to earn their respect, then they will try their hearts out for you.

Breeds I don't like are -
Shetlands in any shape of form, no way!
Freisians (only any good as funeral horses to me!)
Not too keen on Section D's, always too full of fire and brimstone for me!
Weedy Arabs; a proper Arab is a different matter.

and for SSM, I can tolerate a nice CB that has some manners; I actually think they can be stunning, it's just a shame they don't always have the mind to go with it!

Don't blame the horse, it's the handler that teaches manners!!

Mine do have manners, but I expect it from them and will not tolerate naughtiness!!

That's my lot out of the window then!

I defy anyone to say my QH looks like a cut and shut though.

Like tb's and ayrabs they come in varying shapes, sizes and mentality.

Personally I wouldn't waste gas going to view a cob or a warmblood for myself, simply too much of them for me. Hafflingers and the excessively hairy (regardless of origin) are at the bottom of the go to view list also.

Umm, you can get a part-bred with a nice 1/4 or 1/2 bred!

Yes, obviously I was too sensitive and considerate (or weak) at the time to give them the absolute beating they deserved to make them 'respect me'.

wink.gif

I like horses I can ask to do something with me, and then we both enjoy it. I don't like horses i apparently have to beat the **** out of before they realise i'm a force to be reckoned with!
wink.gif

But fortunately it's a free country so we are all entitled to our likes and dislikes! Just wondered, how many other people have you got in you "I adore pure-bred CBs" club?! *runs away quickly, laughing maniacally*

I have never met a warmblood that I really liked- normally nightmares! Sure there are plenty nice ones...
smile.gif

(runs off and hides!)

I don't dislike them per se, just would never buy one as our personalities clash.
TB's - Can't they calm down for one nanosecond?
And shires - they are so obstinate it is infuriating.

I dont think there is a particular breed I dont like but there are definitely some types I dont...eg:

Old fashioned Welsh D - love them to bits.
New lighter Welsh D's, herring gutted, hyper, all flash, sway backed - cant stand them

Old fashioned arab - more bone, more sense, less over bred face, legs - love them
New arabs - not my cup of tea

Common cobs - noooo.
Good Show cob - yes please!

etc

The only breeds I would avoid if buying though would be:
- Gerlanders - dear god they are odd looking things
- Bad QH (again I do like some of them, but not the ones one steroids)
- Cut & shut Cobs
- Haffies (sorry a friend has one and its a horrible hormonal thing - I am sure there are nice ones, but I have never met them)
- Fjords - Just cant see it!

Gosh that is a really hard question actually
ooo.gif

*thinks more*

.....nope I cant honestly say there is a particular breed that I dislike no matter how hard I try, or even dislike the look off, I think every breed has its own beauty and good/bad qualities, although I do stereotype them.

I'm gong to have to look at all the breeds now and pick one out that I'd think urrrrrrrrhh no thank you sir,

as Arni once said...

I'll BE BACK!

though I may be some time.

DISLIKE:
* I dont like cobs (although one of mine is a Welsh Cob which thankfully isnt a proper cob obviously!) - I just think they are short and fat with coarse heads. I also dont like gypsy type cobs either although I have seen the odd flashy one and they can be stunning, most I dislike though!
* I never liked arabs, but after having a part bred - I now like them as they are so clever. Im not that keen on how a pure bred looks though, their faces are just too dipped.
* Fjords, they're just a bit odd and look like they should be in a zoo!
* Although I have a shetland, I doubt Id have another purely because they can be pretty stroppy and arent big enough to ride
wink.gif

* Warmbloods. Sorry, there's too many of them and I just don't see the appeal as there's so many BAD ones! I have had one, had a bad attitude to work.
* Highlands, even though the best pony I ever had was meant to have been a pure highland (although I dont think he was as he was lighter than your usual). Generally, IMO proper highlands aren't very nice. I also dislike fells and dales!

LOVE:
* Iberians - the true fairytale horse with amazing temperaments to match. My dream breed mix is what I have - a Lusitano x TB which I think makes a jumping machine.
* Welsh's - All types I like. The only thing I hate seeing is Welsh A's with dipped backs which seem to be quite common. Love my current B and D though, they have such characters.
