Pretty much as the title said really? And if so what did you think of the stallions on offer?
I went to both and I have to say that some of the young stallions coming up at Brendons are going to be something special. Of the ridden youngsters i was very impressed with Darco Ferrari, a 4 (rising 5) year old son of Unbelievable Darco - this boy is BEAUTIFUL! I would be using him in a shot except taht he si just way too big for my mare (17.1 NOW and with 9.5 inches of bone!)
They have however just got in a new 3 year old colt from the continent who I think I am going to be using. He is by Thunder van de Zuuthoeve who is in turn by Argentinus out of a Nimmerdor mare and his dam line is Ladykiller/Landgraf/Gotthard. He is an absolute darling of a colt, having only been in the country for 2 days, he loose schooled like a gentleman and then stood in his box all day whilst people poked and prodded and of course gave cuddles. Saw Millenium at the Hobgoblins Open Day yesterday and boy is that sweetest and most well mannered stallion I have ever met. He's not right for my mare but one of the other liveries at my yard is possibly now going to be using him for her mare after she has her current Caretino Glory foal.
Did anyone else go and see anyone they liked?

I saw all three of those boys and particularly liked Que Nederland but he's just a shande too big for my girl and her being coloured I don't want to increase the chances of getting a blue and white foal as if coloured I would ideally like a bay/white or black/white although I know nothing is definate.
Darco Ferrari is an amazing animal - he walks into the school and all eyes MUST follow him - he is just so stunning but boy is he going to be big as he is only rising 5 and 17.1! Unbelievable Darco is usually called Bob the Cob as he is a big chunky boy but Ferrari has got 3 inches on him already and also has got an inch more boine on the leg!
I particularly wanted to see My Squire Caretino as he was coloured, like his lines, etc. but I have to say I was a bit disappointed. He is a nice enough boy and I know he is still very 'baby' and poor but i don't think he is marked that nicely and looks slightly back at the knee to me. I also spoke to Shirley about him and I think that one of the main reasons he has been kept entire is because she has really regretted cutting his older full brother (also coloured). He wasn't maturing very quickly and when My Squire was born she decided to have him cut and is now kicking herslef as he is now absolutely stunning. So I think she is keeping this lad entire for a while to see if he will mature a bit better as he gets older, otherwise he will be cut also.
Of the three free schooled babies I saw I think I'm going to be going with El-Thuder - he is perfectly put together, nice temp and if the foal isn't coloured it should still be nice and have a nice bloodline to it as well.

Hobgoblins was ok - bit of a disappointment in terms of the display though. They have 24 stallions standing there at various times throughout the year, including 6 quarter horses and 2 morgans. I know a lot of people who came to see the QH and they had none. There were only 6 stallions on display and no youngstock as they had turned them all out in the fields far away.
Diddicoy went OK for Vicky seeing as she'd only ridden him a couple of times before but he was rather quiet if you know what I mean. He did his job correctly and performed but there was nothing about him that made people go WOW!
Pauldary's Ferro did not impress me at all I have to say. I have seen him in the past and quite liked him but yesterday I definately did not. His jumping was quite rusty and I think he hit more poles than he cleared and for a Grade A to be knocking 1.15m (especially when he is being displayed) I say there is something not quite right.
The young Westphalian stallion First Way was beautiful and I think has got a lovely future ahead of him. Only been broken in for 2 months he was a bit spooky (understandably) but worked nicely, did changes, etc.
Cadre Noir is a lovely moving and nice tempered stallion, just a bit long in the back for my liking.
Millenium stole the show though. Laura Richardson, his owner, hadn't ridden him for several months till yesterday as he is now retired at the stud and spends his time hacking out. He totally thought he was back at a show, what with the plaits and the show clothes, etc. and got very excited to start with, showing off constantly. All I can say is that that horse has got an awesome Piaffe - stayed in it without even creeping forward for 36 steps!! His extensions too were jaw droppingly lovely - especially when you consider that they hadn't performed any of the movements in at least 6 months! And in the box he is the nicest horse (stallion, mare or gelding) that I have EVER come across. He stood there loose in his box with the door wide open all day, sometimes without anyone even there and wouldn't dream of coming out. He was even eating a banana out of a 4 year old's hands!!!

Yes Vicky did say Diddecoy was a bit 'stuffy' I don't think she was overly impressed with him either.

Millenium sounds awesome, I looked on their website yesterday and even printed out a picture of him as I thought he was so nice. Sounds to have a fab nature too. One to consider then?

Definately one to consider. A lady at my yard went with me as her mare is infoal to Caretino Glory at mo and she was looking for hubby for her once baby pops (only about 3 weeks left to go) and she has now def made her mind up on Millenium. She was umming and awwing but then spent 15 minutes in the stable getting kisses and cuddles and came out smitten. I don't think anyone who has met him has not fallen in love with him. He is like a big dog but at the same time as being so chilled and sweet he very definately is a stallion that makes you look up and say WOW - even after he had had a roll and was covered in filth.
His pictures do not do him justice in any way - he is definately an in the flesh animal as his presence is just so imposing. I have never seen anyone so in love with their horse as his owner; even when he was showing off with the excitement in the ring her grin was plastered on her face. She said that riding him is liking coming home.

Diddicoy definately didn't impress. I know a lot of people love him but he just hasn't got that extra special sparkle and with so many stallions around to choose from nowadays I think he needs it. He is very dangly with his front legs over a jump (and seeing old pics of him I believe he always has been) and when working, although I cannot fault him in that he did everything he was asked, he just didn't have that 'sparkle'. In addition, whilst OK in the stable with people, he was the only stallion on the yard (even though there were two 4 year olds) that ended up kicking up a huge uproar, banging and screaming at the one mare on the yard for quite some time.

Hobgoblins has now updated their website with pics from yesterday. So you can see what I mean about Diddicoy from the jumpig pics and also Millenium from the dressage pics.

I know - I have a mare but he's too big and no effense to her, too good for her at mo. Gonna get her frist foal out of the way to a well bred but not as expensive stallion and we'll see where we go from there.

Are we talking about the same Unbelieveable Darco

The one i know is usually called 'Fred', and is certainly not chunky...in fact he's quite delicate

I know he isn't really chunky but everyone who knows him calls him that as he has got the laid back temperament of a cob and in fact used to be a lot heavier than he is now...as he matured he got a lot more refined. I know he is stunning and am not being derogatory about him at all, it's just how everyone has referred to him from time to time cause he's like a big dog.

PS I do also know he is called Fred

. I have known him around and about since he was a 4/5 year old as my best mate was the Lights' head girl at the time.
