the guidelines seem to vary from 5g a day to 50g! I feed about 40g, but it depends on the horse. Just trial and error. How big is yours? Mine are 15.2 (500kg). Does s/he have a sensitive tummy?
Thank you, I will start off with a lower amount and build it up. He is a 16.1 TB who can be a little grumpy and anxious, so wondering whether it could be his tummy that is upsetting him - worth a go anyway! Has feeding it helped yours?
Start with as little as a teaspoon maybe even less as some horses don't like the taste at first so if you frighten him with a full dose he might refuse to eat it at all and then build it up gradually over a month
Thanks, i will start with a small teaspoon, and gradually increase to say 2 tablespoons? Or is that too much? I dont think i have scales that will weigh that small! Have you found it to be of benefit?
I wouldn't feed any more than that TBH although I don't think too much will do any harm it's just wasteful.
Yes, when I'm feeding straights (which I tend to do more in the winter) they have the full dose and it helps a lot with coat, skin and hoof condition; I rarely feed anything other than the broodmares in summer but some say it's a very good fly repellent too.
Natural Horse Supplies recommend 5 - 15g daily. I feed 15g to my 16 hh tb. She's always had it and I not taking her off it, just in case! It is very good for the digestion which in turn makes them more relaxed - I also feed it to our sweet itch pony as it does seem to have some fly repelling qualities.
