'Bridging' the reins

Can someone please step by step explain this ? Websites don't explain it very well

when i do it, i hold reins as normal, then get the loose end bit and just sort of put it under my thumbs evenly so the buckles in the middle ???

Really difficult to describe!

riding out racers always do this,cross the reins so you dont have just one rein in one hand but use both hands,best to use rubber reins.Not too easy to explain----

put reins together like they are kind of crossed over...hard to explain really, great for doing fast work...used to do this alot working with the endurance arabs...!

right i just practised, hold reins as usual. put hands together then get the loose bit of the left rein and just pull it until the reins are all "bridged"

Very hard to explain but this is how I do it.

Hold reins as normal.
With your left hand (still holding rein) grab the rein on the right just after your right hand (ie, side of hand furthest away from horse's mouth) and hold it together with normal rein.
Then take your right hand and do the same with the left rein.
Then adjust reins (by sliding hands along reins) until the loop/bridge has formed.

Not sure if this helps at all really

I use this method on sharp horses - if they shy or spin you keep your hands together and hopefully your balance! Also if you have a long canter you can stand in your stirrups and lean on their neck lightly!

that is a good link,shows exactly how to do it but trying to explain it verbally is impossible!!!

I used to do this when putting the racehorses up the gallops give you extra strength and steady's your position.Not sure if its the wright way but it works for me imagine your hand are like your riding a motorbike ie down faceing then you cross over one side of the rein and put it in both hands then the same with the other so you have a double rein if that makes sense then you use it to lean on that way if you need the rein shorter you and easily slip it throught and equally loosen it, not sure if this is the best way or the right way but it worked for me x
