Bridle HELP!!

I have a lovely 14hh traditional cob and we do dressage together. We are both learning but improving fast!
At the moment he is ridden in a basic cheapo flash bridle no frills kind of thing. For christmas i got a stunning schochemole (sp?) flash comfort bridle and when ridden in it he is a THUG! He just wants to lean so much my shoulders feel like they are dislocating. In his normal bridle he can be weighty in the hands but in this bridle it is just impossible.

Is he uncomfortable in his padded comfort bridle, or is he TOO comfortable?? Im at a loss of what to think, as im gutted this lovely soft padded bridle seems to be the cause! It fits the same but is padded at the poll and has a soft well padded crank noseband.

Any ideas, i have heard good things about the Micklehem bridle especially with cobs??

I dont think i am but i will try and ride in it again tomorrow with everything as loose as i can to see if i have over done it. It seems to fit lovely behind his ears, possibly better than his current one, hense why i wonder if he is too comfortable and taking the mick?! :( x
 
Have you checked that the bit is sitting at the same height/right height in the new bridle, very east to get it slightly wrong/different and my first thought if the bridle is the only thing that has changed that it is probably sitting the bit differently. Is the noseband a different fastening (normal versus crank)? Is the noseband sitting lower/higher at all?

I would be worried if the change in bridle was the cause and that if it was too comfortable he would take the mick, that almost implies that the other one hurt in some way to keep him in line.

I personally once checking the above would be to teach him to be lighter in the hand and not worry about the bridle too much.
 
If the bridle/bit is fitted correctly and if trying to get him light in the hand doesn't work/ to hard try a Waterford snaffle. i had a similar problem, the horse i used to loan used to lean on my hand to the point which they was crippled and a Waterford was brilliant! :)
