I thought I'd take advantage of the cheap sterling and get Oscar a bridle in prep for backing. He's got a *big* head, we're going to need a generous full or WB/Oversize.

I'm looking at John Whittaker, Kieffer and Stubben as they all have sutiable sizing. I want black with flash, prefer rubber reins. Any opinions on the above brands?

I lurrve stubben! Cant remember the model name, but i have the black one with all the brass fittings, it comes with flash noseband and rubber reins

i am a sabre fan myself. they do o/s for big heads too!!! Dont find stubben big enough, Kirkland do a nice hunter type in ex full and also had anice heritage comfort one -nice if you go for the most expensive one.

I have a lovely mark todd that I use for competing(only about £35) , an ancient stubben bridle that seems to survive anything I throw at it, two gfs bridles which again weren't expensive but clean up as new each time and were soft from the beggining and they also do an extra full and will let you mix and match pieces if you ask v nicely! I have a kieffer as well but wasn't particulary impressed didn't clean up v nicely and horse hated the crank noseband . Just realised ow many bridles I have and am quite shocked!

Thanks for all the opinions

MrsMozart - I prefer to use a flash on a young horse loosely fastened to stabalise the bit in the mouth and to discourage mouth opening which may manifest as a problem later on

Thank you. I haven't come across this before, but it's always interesting to hear of peoples ways and means

I would say it's common in producing youngsters for dressage. If they seem settled in the contact and have a soft accepting jaw later I will remove the flash, by all means but until they prove they accept the contact and carry it forward without resistance then they must wear a flash (or a drop).

I have a Passier which has a padded headpiece and flash and it came with eventa reins, I use this on my young hannovarian dressage horses. I would have a look on ebay as they have some good prices.

i have leatherwork by sabre, lemetex and jeffries, the jeffries is far superior and very well made, the sabre is lovely too, just not quiet as supple
