Hiya, I really am muffinino just managed to log out of my account at home and can't recover the password until this evening (idiot :p :o), so posting under a new account for the moment, I hope that's ok with admin :)

Aaaanyway, does anybody if there are bridle paths in Pontcanna fields, Cardiff? I have googled it and found references to there being paths but can't find a definitive answer. I've emailed Cardiff council parks department but haven't heard back from them yet. I'm taking a mate & her horse down to the riding school in my trailer and was wondering if I could take my horse and go for a hack around the park whilst she has her lesson. I don't mind too much if I can't as I can always go for a run but thought it would be fun for the beast and I to ride somewhere different if its a nice evening :D

I don't know about bridle paths, but when I used to ride at Pontcanna riding school (a fair few years ago now, mind!), we regularly hacked all the way around the fields, sticking to the edges.

You could always call the riding school to pick their brains - 02920 383908.

The council were doing a lot of work down there & had fenced off most of the fields, don't know if this has finished now?

Not sure if they hire out their XC jumps as a different option for you? Always fun! :)

When I rode at the riding school many many moons ago, we used to hack out. I'm pretty sure we used to go the back way out of the yard and down some tracks but my memory is hazy.

The RS is owned by the council - and have express permission and insurance to hack the horses around a certain area. I don't think this extends to others though.

Thanks all for replying - and so quickly! :D

I wasn't sure if this was the case but just wondered. When I googled it there were lots of references to 'bridle paths' but it didn't specify if they were open to the public or just for the riding school and I couldn't find any more info. It's nothing major if I can't, just thought it would be fun to have a change of scene. Never mind, I'll just have to go for a run instead :(
