Anyone else have a large shortage in bridle ways ....? there is not enough! and when we go out on the road Arse h*le motorists have a bender !!!! we'll it is not our fault blaim the council !!! We want more. In a 8 mile radius of my yard which by the way is in the deep countryside there is 2 :O Who else has this issue!!!

well i have one which is about 30yrds or so long. and is a handy shortcut.
or another which is straight through a farmyard and has cattle grids throuout..so never use it

Ha, we dont even HAVE such things as bridleways up here in Scotland! I have to ride along farm tracks which are rutted & overgrown with barbed wire fences either side. One of (what used to be) my usual routes has a very small bridge which has given way.... it has huge holes in it so I cant cross. Cant even complain to the farmer because its their tracks so can hardly demand they fix them!

Yep we have rubbish hacking and spend most of the time on country lanes, drivers seem to getting worse recently, they don't even acknowledge you sometimes even though i'm always polite

we have 26 miles of off road hacking but before I move there all I had was roads. Anything that I could put floresent high vis on I did, and I made sure I was curtious and thanked every driver with a smile. Maybe if you get a high vis vest that says "please pass wide and slow" or "Horses kick" they might take more consideration. Also if you can trot to a driveway so that they can pass and learn your highway code hand signals to ask them to slow down. Shouting at them swearing at the top of your voice isn't going to make them better the next time they see you, they'll just go faster next time.

we have quite a few but have to go on main roads and through a busy town to get to them, it annoys me that alot of our bridleways end up on a main road in the middle of nowhere and we have to hack back on the main roads when there are fields with footpaths through them with large areas on the edges of cropfields that would join rides together and make it so much safer if we could use them.

No bridleways at all where I live! I have to risk the roads wearing hi viz or I hack on the fields, although for one of my horses this is not an option as she won't just 'hack' on a field! I have a hi viz saying "please pass wide and slow" not sure drivers take much notice, some do, some don't...

We're quite lucky considering we're not far from london, but I've been working really hard with our local BHS bridleways officer to get the council to create more bridleways. The best way to argue it is to state that you need it on the grounds of safety - ie so that you don't have to ride on main roads.

Find out if your local council has a rights of way officer and also who owns the land. Then call the BHS and find out who is your local bridleway group/officer and they will be able to help you get more opened up.

Alternatively you could approach local land owners to see if they would be interested in opening up toll rides?

Have tried to PM you but says you are not accepting PM's?? If you want more info about how to do it let me know - I'll be happy to help!

i hate the hacking where frankie is - i only hack him out once in a blue moon! i would like to take him out more, schooling gets boring for both of us

but the yard where hes at is a main road, and motorists pretend like were not even there.

i hate it sooo much!

im trying to hint to frankies owner to move him up to a yard near where i work, all off road hacking with miles and miles of tracks. aaahhh bliss

none of the motorists business if youre on the roads! youre entitled to be.
i live in durham now and the motorists with very few exeptions seem to be lovely and thoughtful. Even building site workers and lads with quads and motorbikes shout 'horse coming' to each other and switch off their engines!

We have a couple that are local, all of which are overused when wet and churned up to a point where you can't go down there at risk of loosing your horse in the mud!! We had a nice new gate put on one end of one of the bridleways, but they didn't bother rolling it. Point??

Ah well. We stick to the roads 24/7 and can guarantee that every time I go out on the roads I will have a close call with a vehicle of some sort. I haven't been hit as of yet, but have lost count of how many times we have come close to it. I'm sick of it
