Bridles - why are they so boring?

I'm a little old fashioned & consider many of the bridles shown, despite their price, as tacky. I like English bridles, the quality of the leather & the workmanship of the fancy hand stitching you get on quality bridles is great. They are designed to be practical, work well, enhance the head of the horse, be confortable on the horse, look great & last for years.

here here, totally agree with this!!!!!

Ok, so far, we have Matt, Toby and Ellen in the boring corner... :D

I'm so excited, this could be a great game!! The above posters could put up pics of hand stitched brown bridles and those in the snazzy (such an 80's word!) corner can do the same but of snazzy ones.

This could be HHO 's firsts ever bridle-off!!!:D

(I may have fallen off my rocker)

P.s. Nah, how do you use pics off Internet and get them on your post?

:D I'm in! Here's a pic of the Spooky Pony's competition bridle. For dressage etc., he has a plain black leather one.

I'd love some LOTR style tack... Would pass on a Hobbit style coat on my horse though

I like coloured zilco-style tack for TREC and endurance, but I think it would look tacky in the dressage ring (were in legal etc) or other traditional disciplines...

Many of the others shown are traditional non-British tack, surely? I think it's a bit off to dismiss them as tacky, when they are traditional and historically influenced in other cultures. Some wouldn't suit my horses' donkey heads - like the refined arab ones. I like the chunky Mongolian style ones :)

We have a zilco endurance bridle that we use for picnic hacks and the like, as it is easy to unclip the bit to allow Rolo to graze. And I think the red suits him. We do wear plain black hunter style for most things...

yes, its from Game of Thrones.

Ahh thought it would be a move/tv show where it came from.

Have been meaning to watch Game of Thrones, OH has been really into it and I just haven't had the time, but will eventually watch it, may read it first tho.

I like the LOTR tack, but let's be fair it wouldn't have a place or use in most tack rooms, big lad would take it in his stride most likely but just look at me like I was insane.

I'm not a fan of western tack, but then I don't ride western and I don't think it would suit the giant white one. It's the coloured stuff I find tacky. I wouldn't ride in coloured tack unless I could get me and horse matching paper bags to hide ourselves. :o

I'm in the boring corner too. Can't beat a nice completely plain brown or black bridle, I don't even like stitching or padding on the browband or noseband!

All (or rather both) my numnahs are brown too, apart from one white dressage square. I don't see the point in having loads of numnahs or boots etc one to wear while the other one's being washed & dried is plenty. Horses are expensive enough without loads of silly extras and they're there to do a job not draw attention to us.

That does make me sound really tight and boring doesn't it. :o

I do have a performance equestrian combination bridle (a biothane one, so leather look, but synthetic) but it's brown with brown padding. I use it to go to fun rides etc as he gets too excited to be taking a head collar off and putting a bridle on, so he travels in the headcollar part and I just clip the bit on when I get there. I hate the clips and the bulkiness of the cheek pieces (they're not that bulky but for me they are!) but it works for us.
This is it but in brown and minus the flash. http://www.performance-equestrian.com/cat/catitem.asp?pc=PEBIOHB&d=2&s=6&ss=2

I was wondering about their hi-viz ones as they are so much neater than adding hi-viz sleeves but they're a bit expensive for that.

Sorry, don't mean to offend, but I think the coloured tack all looks a bit well, tacky. Don't like it at all.

I don't mind bling and that sort of thing, or stuff like the coloured padding behind (pink equine and the like), but completely coloured, no thank you.

Not the competely hi-viz ones I hasten to add, they do a nice black one with hi-viz strips on the brow band and noseband - and on the chest pieces of the martingale if you get that.

I don't see why it is boring. Less is more except where quality is concerned. I'd rather spend £100 on safe, long lasting and hardwearing tack than the same amount on something chavtastic that broke at a crucial moment.

Personal taste tho.

My two have their 'best' bridles for shows etc but for everyday they have their fun ones. The kids like them too....and it means they put the right the right bridle on the right pony :p

It's not as orange as it looks, it's actually red.

Haha, we should! I think the jazzy bridles would win ;)

And to do that, just make sure you have a link that looks like this, but without the .... but that on;y seems to happen after I post.

i personally can't stand endurance bridles because in my eyes, they look quite tacky. i think english bridles are soo plain because they're traditional because when they were first invented, the people that made them, never had all these diamontes and ribbons and pom poms ect. they just had plain leather and had to make do.

although my favourite browbands of all time are bit browbands:D

I really love these too! My mum used to have one for her TB and it suited her already pretty face perfectly. I'd love to have stolen that one from her but I think she gave it away when the cob went out on loan :(

Here's one of our "working" bridles on the day job. Normal tack is just boring, boring, boring :-)
