I know this should probably be in the Stable Yard but more people read in here

Any ideas where I can get a bridle with a drop noseband in extra full?! I can't seem to find one anywhere. Everything is either flash (no plain cavessons it would seem) or grackles. Horse hates both of the above and TBH I don't like strapping his mouth shut anyway. I want to try him in a drop for jumping, just to encourage him not to open his mouth rather than force it shut. He jumps in an eggbut french link so he's certainly not trying to get away from a harsh bit (though I am going to try him in a Dr Bristol as could do with a little bit more something).

I refuse to try local saddlery as I've been waiting 6 weeksn (and counting!!) for a bog standard fleece rug they've ordered, and when I call I'm told "we will call you when it's in". So, tried all the normal on line places and the only place I can see selling drops is Derby House but they only have cob or full. I definitely need extra full as horse is a 17.1hh IDx. A full size doesn't come anywhere near fitting.

I don't really want to pay a fortune but it might be the only option! Where else can I try?! Do people even make drop noseband bridles anymore, or is every horse now required to go in a flash?!

Why don't you just buy a drop noseband and put it on your current bridle?

I haven't seen any bridles sold with drop nosebands, wouldn't make sense as not enough of a market.

I bought a cheapo one from Derby House you are welcome to borrow, might be worth it before splashing out, just to make sure he likes it. My horse didn't like it.

sabre do drops, but i'm not sure if they do XL.
i have an assortment of drops in dark havana, so if you get absolutely stuck, i can send you my largest one and you can try that for size, and keep it or get it copied. don't ask a regular saddler to make one unless you take one as a template, i've tried twice now with 2 diff saddlers and they seem incapable of understanding how long to make the tab, and how short to make the buckled bit! i gave exact measurements both times but it must have looked weird to them because both of them made a mess of it and put buckle in centre of chin groove, gggrrrr.

I can't find just a drop noseband either TBH. If you've spotted them anywhere, feel free to post a link!

The plan was to buy just a noseband but current bridle is really tatty anyway so I was going to buy a whole new one. I might end up buying a new cavesson bridle though and buying a drop noseband to swap on to it.

I might try yours if that's ok. What size is it? I'm a bit buggered if he doesn't like it as he also doesn't like a flash or a grackle but I do need something else.

I was also going to say Sabre - if you can't see what you want, give them a call - I have always found them to be very helpful. I've had a bridle put together in odd sizes from them, and I asked for some reins to be made in a special size which they did at no extra price. Prices on their website include p&p and they are very fast at sending stuff out.

Yep, tried the flash loose, tried it done up and tried it strapped shut as well. Ever since I took it off altogether, he now has a paddy if I put it back on. Most of the time I don't need it - he schools and hacks in plain cavesson - but now he's feeling well, I need something else for other things.

Thanks for the Ebay link, it looks ok at first glance. I'm tempted to go with your suggestion earlier of just a drop noseband, then I can buy a cavesson bridle to swap nosebands with.

elevator make beautiful drop nosebands. If you fancy pushing the boat out Passier bridles can be ordered with a drop as standard.

Thanks. I might push the boat out later on in the year once I've tried a cheap one and know he likes it! However, as it's only going to be used for hunting and on the odd occasion I do any jumping, I'm not too bothered about it being a nice bridle. I'm more inclined to buy a really nice cavesson to use for dressage

We just bought a drop noseband and put it on Toto's bridle instead of buying a whole new bridle

I think that's what I'm going to do. Someone posted a link to just a noseband on the Robinsons site so will probably go for that
