A follow on from my previous threads about the park near me with the bridleway through it...
I took my dog to the park yesterday to give her a good blast round the fields while it wasn't raining and walked the length of the bridleway to have a look at the bollard at the bottom.
It seems that it was moved this week as there as fresh tarmac covering the hole where the bollard was! They moved the bollard to the side of the path in front of the recycling container for some reason but the path is now free!
I haven't had time to send any letters this week due to a heavy work load but will write to the ROW inspector this week to tell him that the bollard has been moved and if I still need to write a letter as he requested. Now all there needs to be, is a little "bridleway" sign so more horse riders know it's there and it doesn't fall into disuse and get downgraded to just a footpath. I also hope that the many pony-whizzing-around-kids in my area don't act irresponsibly and start galloping on the playing fields and not stick to the path and ruin it for use other riders who just want a safe and nice place to hack and avoid the busy main road here!
I did "test" out the bridleway and got a lot of strange stares today. LOL, probably because I was riding side saddle and head to hoof in pink hi-viz but I heard some people say as I rode by, that they "hadn't seen horses in the park before". I stopped and explained to them what had been happening and they agreed it was a good thing if the council was going to start maintaining it again as the roads were "full of idiot drivers". The lady said that there used to be an old iron fence that ran the length of the bridleway too (my area was built up in the Victorian era). It was a good hack in the park today despite the rain!
