shes a sweetie bless her.

He warmed up well for the dressage, but then nearly blew up after he;d had a walk around to relax.

Arena was far end of the field, and he could watch the xc course lol anyway he settled and did a super test (i thought) bar him being a twat in the halts. Apart from that I was beaming.
He scored 38... got a 5 for his halts but only 6's and 7s which was a bit disappointing.
Sjing was bright and upto height but he warmed up a treat although the ground was so hard.
Kept warm up to a minimum, and just popped 6 fences and went in - the clouds were building and I told Austin O Connor to get a move on during his round as then it might mean we both get round in the dry lol Im not sure he appreciated that *rolls eyes*
He went in, and was as bold as brass, totally different to the horse at Ascot. He flew round, prob too fast, i must stop increasing my last stride which is why we are having poles so 3 down but I didnt care the round was smashing imo and now I can work on this again.
His confidence seemed to be back and he was ready and firing.

The xc IMO was quite stiff for PN, perfect had I been on winnie, or even snoopy had he run at Mattingley. However, the ground was like concrete and I just cant risk him - seeing winston age 12 crook with ringbone is just heart breaking and I just dont want snoopals to end up the same.

Anyway, we're both home safe and sound looking forward to burnham beeches on saturday

Thanks for reading.

All in all sounds like a good confidence building day, dont blame you for not running xc, ground foul. It is about 3 years since I last saw Aston so lots of changes, no longer so straight forward and I thought both courses were quite stiff. Previously would have said Aston a good first time run but not so sure now.

Good to hear the confidence is back hon! Grr - bloody dressage judges lol, but sounds like he did a nice test. Sounds like you are back on track! Good luck for bb on sat.

x

Indeed Mrs T. But then again, at this time of the year you would want perhaps a course with a bit more questions if you were thinking of upgrading.
I thought it was a super champinoship course, just not idea for those who have yet to run this year.

Madmare... I need you to come over this week and give me a lesson PLEASE! I feel that although we did a lovely test, I think we could do with another eye on the ground session again

that way on saturday we can really please the judge, plus Ive got to get this halt right, little monkey!

I can come on Tuesday as I'm off to SILs wedding on Wednesday morning (why do weddings have to take FOUR days?????)
But have nice first class train tickets so will be travelling in style for a change lol.

Brilliant

I totally agree Mrs T.
Perfect for say Winston even for a first for him because hes experienced but for others perhaps not so sure.

Either way I think Nigel should be congratulated on his and his teams efforts they have been running since last Wednesday and they still dont finish until tomorrow - thats nearly a whole week!!!

Sounds like a good day!! The PN was stiff last aug and I completely freaked myself out and retired, I think that because they have the champs the day before they make use of the course already being marked. Well done tho and good luck next wkend!
I am now having major guilt about running my boy xc yest, the ground was hard but we so needed the run (not run since last sept due to weather and wedding). At least I don't make a habit of it which I hope will make me feel better!!

Glad you had a good day BBs

Sounds like he's ready and raring to go for the rest of the season

I went to Aston with DofftheDerby. The PN caused carnage - but I thought a lot of it was people not ready for such a course. I watched some dreadful riding and a few fences on they fell off. There were loads of 20s and quite a few falls. I did not think it hugely stiff just challenging and needed good riding but at the same time you needed a confident horse.
I have never been to Aston before but can honestly say having seen the xc (run over 2 fields, tight and twisty) and the ground my horse will never run there. I also was not impressed with the SJ warm up which I thought was small. All that lovely space avaliable and they packed it in.

Does anyone know if the rider who was airlifted was okay?

I felt there was no real let up. Aston is known for being a straightforward course ideal for first timers. I think thats why ppl flock there.
I used to compete there and feel it was just too easy, where as yesterday was more challenging - which had the ground been good and my horse a little more experienced would have been a joy to ride.
It seems to ride very well on saturday, but i guess the horses were horses which had competed and qualified for the championships.
Where as yesterday there were combinations who were at their first event.

The warm up isnt usually that small either, but then again they dont usually have 2 sjing arenas!

Poor Nigel has had to deal with everything this year, boggy ground, severe flooding and now concrete ground.

I think she was fine Doff and I were walking the course when we watched her have that fall. It was at the house on the bank. Horse stopped started to scramble over got caught threw the rider and I think she hit her head on the fence. She was definitely concious.

Can't believe your ground is hard now - this is the venue that was rained off two or three weeks ago isn't it, or am I confused. Weird or what - it must dry v quickly.

Ours is perfect at the moment, though the 2" of rain at home on saturday means we are a little squelchy. Thankfully didn't have anywhere near that amount at the event we were at - has to be some advantage in travelling 2 hrs to get to it.

Hope I get a dresage score like yours on Saturday (not much chance though).

Fiona

Well done, sounds like a good day all round (funny how the days when the score is bad are aften the ones where the performance is good!).

Glad his show jumping was more confident.
