I love doing these posts, and so happy to have some regular riding lessons to report on again Fortnightly for now but weekly again when funds will allow!
Another new horse today: a tall, handsome chestnut chap who I was told was a gentleman and a schoolmaster. My idea of horsey perfection! Now the last time I sat on a horse described as a schoolmaster I had to get off after about 5 minutes because I was apparently pressing every button except 'walk forwards in a straight line' and never felt such an awful rider but this one gave me a much easier time while still making me work to give the right aids. Of course I fell in love. Again!
We did some medium trot which is a new one for me. I now have a much better understanding of the sensation of the horse pushing from their hind end. It felt like a boost button to me: "ooh he's got gears!" I said! Lovely comfy sitting working trot "I feel dressage-y!" I said He did also have a lovely canter but given I've been on 14.2 cobs for a considerable amount of time the extra ground coverage had me feeling we were going galloping round (video confirms were in fact not). This did make me a little nervous but I'm pleased to report I was able to stick with it and practice some trot-canter and walk-canter transitions. Perhaps not my best but not bad for a first ride with a new horse.
