Brightwells Auction

I did note them down last night but my list is at home. I'll pick it up tonight and post in morning. I wouldn't be 100% certain of them as one foal I and 5 other people had noted as £1800 not sold when we tried to do a deal after the auction were told it had sold in the ring.

Prices were down on last year and a lot were not sold. Top price foal was £6,000
and highest price was £14,000 for Broodmare – Walhalla 2003 by Worldly – Westwall – Diplomat.
Covered by Dancier. Last Service Date 16th April 2009.

thank you! I look forward to seeing the list

lot 11 I had noted as unsold but when we enquired about him after end of auction we were told he was sold in ring? He was one of the best shown but fetched no money - we were not looking for a colt but thought it was worth a shot afterwards.

Anyone going tonight?

Thanks for that!

I think the one I am most surprised about is the Millfield one by Coriano Z!!! Also the one by Conteur!!! Both these have fetched not a whole lot more than their stud fees and probably less than the vet fees combined! The Sir Shutterfly must have been nice to have fetched a semi decent (considering circumstances) price as his are not selling for much on the continent compared to others. Soo pleased to see that the Sempers Spirit baby made a decent price!

Think this site could do with a spell checker.

Oh dear Aredis - I am soo sorry for a typo! Seeing as I CAN spell....sometimes when you are typing quickly letters do get missed off or mixed up and I am so sorry if I have offended you! Seeing as, as far as I am aware, Shutterfly is not a word that can be found in the English dictionary then I imagine even a spell checker would not have picked up on it!

I shall be there. Just a balcony drinks table tonight. I'm told all of the tables are sold out and the story is there are a number of Arab buyers coming - if so the prices might be interesting

Lot 1 sold - belongs to a friend but for less that quoted so may have been outside of sale?

I suspect a number of deals were done outside the ring as a number I think got very close to their reserves. It was also diffcult at times to know whether they had sold or not as the auctioneer was not as clear as he usually is or maybe it was because we had tables well away from him. I know my wife frequently had trouble getting seen with her bids (sigh of relief!).

Looking at those prices, it's not worth breeding. We went last night and there was very little interest in a lot or the horses. Some had no bids at all.

it does make you wonder, i must admit i feel lucky i got my foal sold, but i let him go for much less than he was worth but still made enough profit to take us on holiday!!!! and the lady knows it, but i could afford to as i used my own stallion so kept my costs down?? does make me apprehensive having four due next year though.

If you have good horses - British Bred or not - they make good prices. Euro Sport Horse had a homebred 3 year old which was very nice with good x-rays, out of a quality jumping mare who had a lovely temperament and made about £26,000 - they will have made a tidy profit on that and much more than if they had invested the money in the bank or property. I bid on it and it went for more than my budget which is a shame for me but I think it was worth the price paid.
