Very grateful to the local vets for mending my loan pony this evening.
My OH heard this morning that he's got the job that he went for so he's sooooo happy and I'm very very happy for him
I decided that going for a nice hack in the fab weather would be the best way to celebrate.
I picked up Lizzie - Mouse's rider - and got to the stables. Groomed Jazzy off (saddler gave him the all clear) and picked his feet out, to find he'd lost a front shoe
So decided to take the two ponies out instead so Lizzie was still grooming mouse so I took Thunder's sweet-itch rug off and started to groom him. Picked his feet out and noticed on the last leg my hand covered in blood. Had a quick look at leg and decided to try to hose it. Thunder had other ideas. Threw a few buckets of water over it which revealed a 3" gash down the front of his back leg.
Decided it needed stitching so called local vets. He was there promptly and took my word that Thunder would need sedating. Thunder reared up with dentist, farrier and when I wormed him so assumed reaction would be the same when vet was messing about with a flap of skin on his leg!!!
So he sedated him, clipped area and anaesthetised gash. Put three stitches in and asked if I was ok to take them out. I said I should be (have a biology degree!!). He also asked about vaccinations but didn't think tetanus jab was needed - didn't try to sell me stuff I didn't need and saved me another visit by allowing me to remove the stitches.
Very pleased
he was nice and calm with him and took my word for a lot of things
I await the bill
but very pleased with how everything was dealt with.
No riding for a while but could have been worse!!
