I am thinking of buying a brood mare and bringing her back into riding after a few years out. What aspects should I be concerned with when I go to see her? and questions I should be asking?

Thanks a million for your help!

Hi there, I bought a broodmare back into riding after 3 years out.
We just asked general questions and also what he was used for before breeding. Also got a chance to sit on her and have a plod around the field (foal at foot!)
Good luck, I've found it hard as I've had to re-educate her as she's much older but she seems to be a quick learner!

My mare was 9 and was a broodmare til I got her. She was very easy to break but was pretty stiff and unbalanced. It took a while to get her fit and use her muscles properly but it was just like bringing on a baby with a saner head!!. She has had another foal this year and I am just starting to ride her again, but I do feel she really was happiest being a mum.

Thanks for your help! The horse I am going to look at had been for sale as a mare in foal but she aborted twins and now being sold as a riding horse. She is only 5 rising 6 and already has had a few foals in netherlands. But was owned by someone in the UK. Hopefully the seller is honest but you never know why anyone sells their horse and what to believe! I have heard about so much. If you know what I mean.

One of my mares is 17 this year and came back into work last year after weaning her 4th foal. We've taken things steady with increasing her work levels and i know she will take longer than a non ex-broodmare to really start using herself properly. But if this mare is only 6 you should have no problems
