I've got an 11 year old Connie who used to Show Jump regularly over courses up to about 90cm but she hasn't jumped for the last two years due to having a career break as a dressage diva.
We are now planning to start Show Jumping again but worried about taking it too quickly as she's had a complete break. She's fit and ridden 5/ 6 times a week and has done one pole work/ cross pole session a week for the last fortnight but because she's not jumped in such a long time I've been too scared to do more than a 50cm cross pole a new times each session in case she strains something.
Planning to do another pole work session tonight and maybe add in a very small straight bar to jump once or twice but not sure if I'm being over cautious and taking things too slowly or whether this is about right considering she's been away from it for 2 years.
Any thoughts?
