using the word work loosely, not a big problem at all but just wondering what anyone else would do. I've had my mare for about 8 months and she can be a little grumpy and stuborn, intitially we had a few minor problems, pretending to spook to avoid work, threatening to bite, not standing at block just testing the boundaries I reckoned. Well she has only been ridden once a week or maybe twice over winter but wanted to start doing a little more. She had been so good for the last couple of months and we seem to have bonded. Well I rode last night after a week and a half of doing nothing and she was really good, didn't do much mostly walking and a little trot, 30 mins max, then tonight she was fine until I arrived with saddle, she pulled faces while I tacked up wouldn't stand at block and was so stuborn in the school, eventually managed to get her to listen after a good 10 mins so continued for another 5 then called it a day.
Sorry this is rambling a bit, question is should I ride again tomorrow and just make her get on with it or should I ride her alternate days to begin with. Sorry if this seems silly to a lot of people I just am probably too soft but want her to be happy to be ridden, so should I ease her in gently.
Thanks for reading if you managed to get through my dribble :)

I have had something similar going on recently bringing my mare back into work after surgery. First, get her checked out physically including vet, physio, saddler (if she's had a few months off she will likely have changed shape) and dentist. If she is uncomfortable this would account for the reluctance to be saddled, mounted and worked.
The next thing is that fitness comes before schooling, so build it up gradually, starting with walking then walking and trotting on the roads. When you are doing walk trot canter hacks and she is feeling pretty fit then it is a much better time to reintroduce the schoolwork.
Why not start hacking/groundwork on alternate days, just 30 minutes walking to begin with, and see how she goes from there? Good luck.
