Hi all,

What age do you bring your youngsters ‘home’ from young stock livery?

Either when they are ready to break or after they are broken in depending on if I am doing it myself or they are being sent away.

My current yearling will turn 3 in March 2027, just trying to work out whether it would be better to move her during the winter before she’s 3 to give her time to settle and proper handling.. or the spring of 3 then crack straight on with groundwork etc. Obviously won’t know if she’s mature enough to back until I get to that point.

Never had to ‘bring one home’ before so just trying to plan ahead and look at options

I brought mine home when he was two. I have 5 other horses at home of various ages so I thought he’d benefit from being at home in a mixed herd and he was big enough to not get squished.
