bringing horse back into work?

mare has had a 3 (nearly 4) week holiday just lounging in the field while i`ve been away etc

now i want to start riding her again so do i have to start with a fittening program? she was reasonbly fit beforehand

I would say no. Just walk for the first day, perhaps walk and trot for a few days after that and leave it a week or two before jumping. Just to get her back into the swing of things.

That is what I would personally do.

Thumper will get ridden on the weekend after three weeks off. And I don't plan on doing much different tbh.
 
As a general rule it takes as long as the horse has off to bring them back up to their fitness level they were at before the time off, well that was what my vet told me to do after my horse had been on box rest for three weeks.
