Hi, just wondering if anyone has any tips/advice on bringing a horse back into work after a few weeks box rest. He will have been in for just under 3 weeks, and had nearly 4 weeks off work. He'll be allowed back out into his paddock in 2 days.

He was quite fit before this, any advice on how long it will take to get him fit again? He's looking a very good weight at the moment so hopefully that'll help!
Can't wait to get riding again :)

Thanks in advance! :D

I put a lot of time and work into slow basic work to ensure tendons are hard again. When mine was off for 5 weeks, I spent 2 weeks hacking and then building upto slow school work. I only worked in walk for the first week and introduced some trot in the second. I did a lot of road work as well. When I could, I would break the sessions into 2 short ones as well so short hack in the morning and then light school in the evening.

Thank you for your reply :)
I would like to hack but we are on an awful road (50mph where people do much faster) so it's quite difficult :( very few hack from my yard and I wouldn't go out on my own.
We have a horse walker so he can go on that for a short amount of time in the mornings then I can walk him in the evenings. I don't go up in the morning so this would be a good option as YO can put him on :)

Defo jump jump jump jump

At least thats what the kids at my yard do!

Hack as much as you can, long and low if in the school and have fun!

Completely not relevant but....

...I read the title hoping the next words would be '....and where would you park him??'...

:D

Got me thinking instantly '....well there's literally a riding school across road or could I fence a bit of the football field off...??'...

:p

Yeah I was thinking jumping would be good as he'll get fit quicker. Might take him xc next week too ;)

Hahah. Completely missed that!
Yep we've got a nice little garden out the back of my office, he could keep the grass down :D
