Bringing horses home - top tips?

We've got all our troughs fed from the water off the field shelter roofs and a trough by the stables to collect it from there to be used in the stables. In the past I'd had a water butt and it was all a bit fiddly but using a trough instead so that you can just dunk a bucket in or tip it over to scrub it out is so much easier.

I very rarely have to use a hose/ tap for the horses water.

ETA - I also really like having a wash/ grooming box/ place. It means brushes and first aid creams, brushing boots etc can all be kept there and I have a hanger for wet rugs there too. You also then always have somewhere dry to sort the horses and for horses to be shod etc. Not always possible to set up but it's a luxury that I never got on a livery yard and find really useful.

This year we invested in trace heating, you tie wrap it to your pipes and when the temperature drops the thermostat kicks in and the cable heats up. No more frozen pipes and even my outside tap kept running through -7 at night. Total gamechanger. I have a toilet in my feed room and all the pipes are done with trace heat now. We just bought a ready-made kit in the size needed. Cost around £75 for a 10m kit.
