Bringing in at Night for the winter

Ours only come in at night when the ground/shelter is so wet and boggy that they don't have somewhere dry(ish) to stand. We keep them out as much as possible, so even when they have to start coming in at night we look for the soonest opportunity to throw them back out again even if it's just for a week or two. They are defintely MUCH happier out 24/7 (this is a fat NF pony who doesn't actually need to come in at all, it's just easier to treat them all the same, a 21 yr old TB/Connie (both of which usually have a bib clip) and an unclipped 7/8 TB Anglo - the last two are in light/medium work.

Mine been coming in at night for 2 weeks now, not my choice fields so f'ing crap and waterlogged that yo said in at night out at day. My big lad in fulltime as his field is horrendous but he prefers it in(stands knee deep in mud all day at gate waiting)if left out

Hopefully mine will be out until almost Christmas, although it does depend on how wet it is and how the grass lasts.

Last year they were in by October, but in previous years its been mid December.

I've only done a bib clip on my TXx so far so I can get away without rugs for a bit longer too...

End of October generally, although I think they were out until the first week of November last year.

They then get kicked out in Late March if possible. Yes, I am lazy

Plus I really do think 24/7 turnout is better, but in the winter its just a bit easier with riding/competing etc if the ridden horses are in. Two of ours, the oldies, live out all year.

My TB I have left out until December but since acquiring the most "high maintenace welsh mountain in the world ever" They have to come in when when there is the first frost.
She is frost sensitive lami and he can't possibly live out without her, even though he is surrounded on all sides by other horses.

My arab is still out overnight without a rug (I have battled with my conscience a lot recently) but after checking her first thing this morning I'm convinced she is toasty, even when I am freezing my t**s off.

It was november last year when she started coming in but it's colder this year I think. She'll be out until it starts getting really cold or wet and muddy cos she gets really bad mud fever

. Though even then she's difficult to catch, which indicates to me that she prefers to be out. She gets stressy in her stable so I prefer her to be out as much as possible, even in bad weather if she's suitably dressed

She has her suncream on today, weather can't make it's mind up
