Hi, not really looking for advise just thought id share my news :)

so after losing my old horse in November i struggled to find the motivation to ride my 13yr old. after lots of umming and ahhing i decided to give myself and him a break. he hasnt really had any time off since i started retraining him mid 2012 so thought he could use the time to just be a horse. unfortuantly because of this weather and the fact he is fully clipped (was in heavy work before being roughed off) he was still being stabled over night. next week will be 7 weeks we have had off and i am planning to start riding him from saturday onwards. i cant wait to get back on him now and i think the break will have done wonders for the both of us...he has filled out more and looks more hunter than racehorse now and im not grieving so much about my old boy.

he had stem cell treatment a few years ago so will be taking it very slow to build his muscles and tendons. the goal is to do some low level dressage and ex racehorse shows with him over the summer and into the autum so im in no rush to bring him back into full work. i expect we will spend about a 2 month just walking with light trotting on soft ground building up to 3 and half/4 hour hacks. but i think the first day will be 10/15 mins walking around the school till he gets used to having the weight back on him. (has been known in his racing days to become a bit silly the first time sat on after his holidays) really looking forward to riding him again, just hope we dont get much more flooding as he has a fear of walking through water (genuine, he's not being naughty about it).

IM SO EXCITED!!!! :)
