Hi does anyone know where in/around Bristol would be good to advertise for work, thinking of tack shops etc. but am new to the area so don't know where any are (other than Scats in the city centre I am told has an equine section..), have been looking online for jobs but there doesn't seem to be anything!! If anybody had any ideas or locations of tack shops or even show centres where I could put ads up would be brilliant!

Jennys tack shop (which has a new name I think)
Equicraft at backwell
Pinkers at iron acton
Countrywide at thornbury
Hand EC
Badgworth Arena
Leyland Court Farm
Bushy Vets at Failand
Murphy's at Hewish
Garratts down near Cheddar
New Bristol and SW horse information group on FB

There is Jenny's tack shop just the other side of Kingswood.

On the A370 towards Weston, there is Equicraft in Backwell and further down the same road (past Congresbury) is Murphy's.

As for centres, Badgeworth on the A38 (past Cheddar) is always busy and has shows and events almost every night. While you are in that direction, there are riding schools at Sidcot School and also in Shipham (I think that's still there).

Then there is the Hands Centre at Clevedon, and Leyland Court near Bradley Stoke.

There are loads more places I'm sure.

Think most places have been covered above. If you're coming out on A370 towards Equicraft and Murphy's then Urchinwood Manor also have a noticeboard where you might be able to advertise.

Which makes New Lounge look sane! ;)[/QUOTE]

I thought it was just me that thought that lol. I pulled out the page after getting too many adverts from the same people selling all sorts of horses/ponies with the oddest stories and conversations on there.

I dont use the FB page either just see it popping up on the news feed from time to time - seems a bit bizarre but it's all exposure if you're wanting work...

How funny I also withdrew from the group. Horrible bunch.

No suggestions which haven't already been added OP, but welcome to the SW.

Jenny's is now The Tack Room? Tack Shop? Something like that!

Sodbury Vale Equestrian at Oakleigh Green Nurseries, Westerleigh have an adverts board.

Re the SW Group on FB - I just read it in disbelief sometimes!

I am a member of that group.. very odd, probably not worth using as seems very DIY orientated... not likely to find much work there!!

Thanks for all the ideas, I will do a run-around and put some flyers up, I am quite keen to look for private work as have been doing this currently (helping people with horses at home) and really enjoy it, but have contacted some livey/comp yards and got hopeful replies so we shall see!

Waste of time on the facebook page then, if you use full livery (or additional help) you are evil apparently.
Good luck with searching for work :)

Ah yes.... 'full liveries look down their noses at everyone' and 'you shouldn't have a horse if you can only have them on full livery'.

Where's the 'rolling eyes' smiley gone?

That's right up there with 'I like DIY because it helps me bond with my horse'....yeah, coz it does make a *real* difference who shovels the s**t!!

Tom Buckland is looking for a part time groom - he is North of Bristol. Taken from Facebook.

Wanted:- part time groom, sat, sun and Mondays am and pm (hours to suit you) plus weekday evenings. Possiblilty of own horse as part of your wage. Person must have common sense, and be able to work at times unsupervised, and be able to handle stallions.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. Totally agree with this as used to be on full livery, now on DIY as YO has been preggers for the last 2 years. Only difference is that I have get up at stupid oclock most days and sometimes go to work whiffing of horse.

Agree with comments regarding that particular FB page. They are all raving loonies.

If you are looking for work, what about taking yourself around some of the bigger yards. Cant really volunteer ours as we are all DIY, plus have a resident roving groom/instructor etc who help us out when YO is unable to help us.

Brilliant thank you have added him on fb

If you end up working for Tom that would be very odd - he used to be my instructor. Tell him you come reccomended by me if you do go for the job!! He's based at the yard that we used to keep Ferds at. Mum has now moved about 1/4mile further up the road...
