Anyone else watching this? Just boo'ed my eyes out at the whippets, lovely story. Wouldn't want Gok Wan's french bulldog, I like some reciprocal love and interaction with mine :lol:
 
Yes I am! I also bawled my eyes out, I lost my 15 year old Labrador in May and it's still quite raw.

I then cried even more as my 12 week old Labrador x Lurcher came running over to me, sat down next to me and gave me the most soul searching look. He normally doesn't sit still for more than 10 seconds so I felt like he was telling me it's ok.

I'm going to go back to the asylum now...
 
I enjoyed the programme, but a little disturbed about the amount of fat/overweight does that were featured. I'm sure there must be better examples of some of the breeds that were shown.

Also, they got the number one dog wrong, it should have been either of my rescue breeds, Norfolk terrier cross or JRTx cocker :-)
 
I welled up with the story of Walnut the whippet too and the ex-Marine and his Labrador. I was a bit dubious about watching as these dog programmes often dig out the most eccentric and batty owners but was pleasantly surprised with most of it. I enjoyed it. Especially loved the fact they chose working dogs to highlight the GSD :)
 
I didn't see the programme but I do think that people think obese is normal nowadays. My dogs are perceieved as thin - even by my mother - as they have a pronounced dip behind their rib cage.
 
I enjoyed the show, especially the assistance dog with the soldier, I did wonder if another dog is trained and put with him as his first dog ages, the soldier's mental health revolves around his dog.

i couldn't bare to watch the dog in a wheeled cart though. It looked happy but not sure how I feel about it.

My mum has had a couple of GSD's that have ended up with a trolley for their back legs, they have been very happy and had a great quality of life, so I can recommend them from personal experience. Probably very dependent on the actual dog but both of mum's were very happy, and loved their walks.
 
I find dogs on wheels utterly repugnant. How do they go to the loo? Human interfence at a vile level.
Sorry, supporters of same, but I am on hold to the Inland Revenue and losing will to live.

Good luck Clodagh, I hope you got your Inland Revenue issue sorted - my tax return went in a couple of weeks ago and I know that feeling only too well!

I've always thought (alright, assumed) that dogs on wheels were for the owner's benefit, not the dog's, but then the other day we saw a little terrier cross type thing on wheels - and it was having a wonderful time scooting along beside its friend. So now I'm thinking perhaps I should revise my opinion.
 
Try having greyhounds and lurchers - everyone says how thin they are :D I find fat dogs horrifying to put it mildly, mine are possibly thinner than the ‘average’ pet greyhound but I know they are spot on weight wise
 
I watched it last night with Stanley, we both enjoyed it although Stan fell asleep before the end and completely missed the top ten! I was a bit worried by the guy with the whippet though and the number of fat dogs featured. Interesting to see how many "designer" dogs were in the top 20 and having recently been to puppy classes this was quite evident.
 
I hope they managed to find the owners of those poor poodles and prosecute them. Disgusting scum.
I was pleased to see the Gordon setter made it on though only in the bottom 5. No English setters though
Didn't realise there were so many cross/poo types.
