Poppy had her competition debut today- affiliated Prelim 19 at Sparsholt. She was mildly stressed at first but after a few walks round with a buddy she settled right down and warmed up like a pro. Went into the arena, which had to be right next door to the horsebox with Woody in it who was screaming his head off non stop
but she managed to ignore him most of the time and did a really sweet test. She was green at times, but was generally just sooo obedient and rideable. She has never seen white boards before/letters but did not bat an eyelid!
She came 5th with 60% in a hard marking section- winner won on 64% I think. Cant believe that she ran a race 6 weeks ago, she was a total dude.

Woody was OK- he was doing Novice 22. Warmed up OK and then went in , there was a lot of noise going on with tractors/machinery and college horses being led back and forth, he did quite well (for him) to contain himself but it was a pretty tense and bad test. I was amazed that the judge volunteered to let us have another go and to forget that test- apparently this machine exploded or something hence a lot of noise.
Went back in some time later and he was much better, trot work was an improvement, not so tight in the neck, but still not really coming through over the back
but he got tense with all the medium work, judge was feeling shockingly generous and gave us a lot of 7's with some 5's and 4's and one 8 for a wobbly centre line and unsquare halt
But anyway, it was really nice to get some better marks for a change! He got a 5 for his submission
Got 60.69% and was 1% of 6th place in a very large section, so was pretty pleased
