I've just registered myself and my horse with british dressage. He is a 13 y/o gelding, imported from Denmark as a 3 year old. However, they have given him 450 points due to his age.

Would flu/tet vaccs or a BSJA record from when he was a 4 y/o be enough proof that he was imported as a 3 year old? (I didnt import him, and have no docs to say that he was...)

The annoying thing is, the vaccs were started when he was 5, but I guess starting with 45 points is a lot better than 450 when the horse is almost ready for elementary haha!
 
Vacs by a British vet are fine for proof, you shouldn't have to pay anything, but he will be graded as a 5 year old import as you don't have any earlier proof. 45 is not too bad, you can still compete Prelim on that.

In that case, I shall email them a copy first thing in the morning, more than happy if I can compete at novice :)

Ask this question on the BD forum. Diane Carpenter comes back with good rules based advise.
I think you can get lower than 45 points if you take the horse for an assessment rather than just acepting the points offered.
 
You have to pay for an assessment and it costs 75 pounds. There is also no guarrantee that the horse will be assessed down to 0 points.

Assuming you are a group 8 or 7 rider, you can compete in Prelim qualifiers until your horse gets 49 points or more. You only get points from Novice onwards, with scores of 60% and over. So the trick is to only do Novice H/C or training until you qualify at Prelim and then you can do Novice restricted and qualify for that as well (if you get more than 49 points AFTER you have qualified at Prelim you can still compete at the Regionals)!
 
oh wow - i posted about assessments 2 days ago and got no replies.

i used his vaccs to show when he came over - you should be able to post that and itll be fine.

i am opting for assessing mine was imported as a 10 year old.

The forum moves very quickly and a lot of posts get lost. Try 'bumping' your posts for more replies.

Assessment do cost as mentioned above, an experienced assessor comes to see you ride your horse. They can usually judge from that although they do have the right to ask to sit on the horse. They will then allocate what they think is the appropriate number of points to the horse. If your horse has not competed abroad and its schooling is basic than you are likely to get a corresponding assessment.
 
I'm going to ask BD but you two ladies seem to be quite clued up on this so wondered if you could answer my query. Am looking at a horse who is abroad - he is 10 so would get 450 pts, doubt an assessment will help too much as he is at psg although I will look into it. I'm a group 4 rider, so I know if I bought a 450 pt horse here I could have it downgraded to advanced medium, presumably if he is an import I could do the same ? Ta in advance!
