Is it just me or dos anoyone else also think BE is starting to do more for us amature riders?

Look at this yaer, there is now Training classes, JAS, Grasshoppers jumping, XC training and even the new eventing pre novice classes that were in H&H magazine today. I'm really looking forward to this season... lets hope it does not rain so much.

I just wish they would offer more in the North of the country or Scotland. EHOA (Event Horse assoc) seems to be getting a better balance in relation to training but I fence judge and work in the XC control when I am not riding and there has not been any formal training for this in the North.

Grasshoppers all South aswell.

I thought there was some grasshoppers in the north? My friend told me that there is going to be two of those training classes in scotland this year.

Just looked on the BE website on grasshoppers and there is one at Osbaldeston, Bishop Burton, Richmond and Oatridge in Scotland. How north are you?

I know how you feel though. I used to live in Lancashire and some of the events that i did no longer exist... Lythm st Annes.

that will be because the penny is finally dropping that what pays for badminton etc and the mere 200 odd registered advanced horses to have advanced courses is l the peeps who do prenovice and intro. ask nigel taylor at aston le walls. his whole days of intro keeps the advanced course going.

Heck !! Thats far!! I think the people in Wales have the same problem. I dont think there are any events there either.

Its a shame really. I dont think its BE's fault, its probably that alot of farmers/ land owners dont want loads of horses on their land or dont want to spend the money building a suitable corse. I suppose BSJA and Dressage have it easier because their competitions can be done indoors. Are there many BSJA or BD in your area?

I am in North East Cumbria - all places mentioned are two hours plus away from me. Osbaldeston or Richmond are probably the easiest for me. I just wish that some of the initiatives are shared accross the country a bit more. There are no events in the South of Scotland although there are some excellent ones I have been to in the Borders.

It just seems we get a bit forgotten about up here.

JAS are also miles away from me which is annoying. also what is the new eventing pre novice classes that were in H&H magazine today?

You're totally right there!
I think there's exactly 3 events in Wales, all of which are right on the border (Llanymynech XC actually crosses the border I think - twice, so you actually jump into Wales & then back out again!)

Here in West Wales we have no events at all within 2 hours drive

But I have to agree - BE are doing a lot more for the lower levels & bridging the gaps between which is good

Why so sour? The Intro JAS 2007 Champion was not a professional. And the others? well? they may be on the jounior/YR/pony teams but they also have to practice. You would like to think that the sucess of the teams last year had something to do with these sort of riders being able to ride at these events also?

Isn't that one of the best things about this sport? That both amature and professional, men and women can compete together at the same level?

Sorry ,but I don't think they are doing it to be nice to us.It is a good way of getting money in.
They can run low level things and give no prize money and get loads of entries and in training they can claim lots of grants.
At higher level ,there are less entries, they have to give more prize money and a lot want their own trainers so don't go to things that might be put on.
Having said that it is great that there is lots of things to do ,if we can afford it.

I am afrais I totally agree, I was talking to somebody the other day about it, I mentioned that I got 2nd at one, she replied 'I thought you had to be really good'! Thanks Mate!
It does tend to be judged by local judges and the local pro's seem to band together.
I will be enetering this year, it is good fun, but I still dont actually think it has any benefit to a green horse.
It is more for a razz round on an old hand!
NB was quite happy to come second as I won £25, at the time a lesson with a BE trainer was wasted on me!

We have a serious lack of things like this up in Scotland as already mentioned. My closest Grasshoppers venue is 157 miles away, I dont think there's any JAS in the whole of Scotland? And Ive only ever heard of 1 BE-organised training day which was still over 100 miles from me. Its crazy because apparently NE Scotland has the second highest equestrian population in the whole of the UK! You'd think that'd mean we should have a decent array of events! I have 3 BE events within are within 2 hours of me (which is quite good), the others are 3/4 hours away and thats only central scotland. I dont venture into southern scotland / borders - way too far! ALL championships (for pretty much ALL disiplines) are always down in England, the least the could do is make them right in the middle of the UK but noooooo!

Im sure Wales has the same problem. We miss out on so much, its really quite unfair. But unfortunately I mentioned to BE about the lack of JAS up here and they said that theyd be happy for me to suggest a venue however the venue had to have indoor warm up & arena of a specific size, parking for hundreds etc. etc. which we simply dont have up here... Maybe it should be scaled down a bit up here. Either way, we shouldnt miss out purely because we lack decent venues.

Since when did West Wilts have indoor warmup? I thin BE are running with 2 sets of rules!

Zorrack = I'm not sour about JAS, but watching a YR get decked last year by her horse and still coming in the top 3 made me realise it is most definatley fixed! Might just have been that judge - but it put me off.

Totally agree if you are in this area you do need to be having lessons with a certain trainer or at least be known by them or in the market for a horse from them and it is definately not for green horses. I think a fast working hunter would do well though.

There is no JAS for Somerset, Devon or Cornwall despite there being plenty of suitable venues. Nearest JAS for us is Wiltshire. There is also no grasshoppers and there is hardly ever any EHOA stuff.

Wales has no BE course, BSJA fares slightly better unless you live in Area 36 where I am and BD can't provide judges so many competitions are cancelled.
Wales is alright if you live round the edges.
