Yes you can have a go.. but you need to go to a BE accredited trainer first, for them to assess you, then they sign something... although i think it might of changed this season (that's how it used to be) not sure if you can now just do it over the phone if you have some good form at PC open level, and get your PC DC to say something....
(never had to look into it myself, so i could be totally wrong) have a look on the BE website, it should all be in there...
The accreditation from a BE trainer has stopped this season. But you have to register with your regional co-ordinator if your under 18 i think it is, INFO...
If your on a pony then this bit relates to you....
"Riders in the year of their 12th - 16th birthday on ponies, competing at Intro and Pre-Novice level register with their JRN coordinator."
Basically it means you have to register with the person who looks after the juniors (under 18's) in your area, to be able to compete.
JRN =junior regional novice, its a BE class at novice height for 18 and unders.
I think Essex is in the Eastern region. so when you are registerd with BE you will have to contact

im 17 competing PN i nly thought you had to register with coordinator if you were doing JRN
[/ QUOTE ]
Nope..
"Riders who are only wishing to compete at Intro and Re-Novice level need to contact their Co-ordinator, whose address is set out in the BE magazine/rule book, giving details of their name, home address, telephone number, date of birth and name and age of horse as of January 1st"
I sent mine an email giving my details and saying i wanted to do JRN next season but only intro and PN this year, she excepted the email but i think most want a letter.

i never did last year on tickets....does it mean i will not be able to compete otherwise?
*confesses to not havin read the rule book yet*

It's a new rule this year.
I'm not sure, probably not as not that many people are aware of it but i think they want you to register with the co-ordinator to keep track of you. Just send a quick email giving your details and ask if she/he want that in 'writing' and if so do exactly the same thing but post it lol!
Im sure that the new rules are as follows, If a pony rider or under 16, you must start at intro. To progress to pre novice you must have had 4 double clears. To progress to JRN you must have had 4 double clears. This might not be too accurate as I only glanced at it, plus it doesn't really include me!
You don't need double clears, must be clear XC and no more than 16 faults SJ.
Need 3 to go from Intro to PN and 4 to go PN to JRN.
However an established rider and an experienced horse can be fastracked through the grades
eg
Bee has done loads on her pony, bought horse with points last year, she has been fastracked to JRN on the horse (was already qualified on the pony) as both her and Jasper have experience, just not together.
