Can someone help me settle this. I was at the British Open on Sunday and saw Ellen Whitaker ride Desdemona in the Speed Stakes. I swear she had a run out - in fact I remember 'cos she smacked her twice on the bum for it. But I just came across her blog and she said she was 'pleased they went clear'. I also looked a the results and it doesn't have any faults next to her although her time was very slow.

Did any one else see this or am I going mad?!!

If it was a speed class then she has taken the penalties of the extra time re presenting to the fence. In some speed classes a knock down adds 4 time penalties added on to the time so has the same effect. I have seen Ellen win many a speed class even with a fence down.

Yes she did definitely have a stop, but the time taken to reapporach it was all that gets added on, however i wouldnt of called it a clear myself. She didnt push on after that which is why her time was a little slow, i thought the horse really took advantage at that fence little tinker, not often i say the horse deserved a little whack.

Ah, that's what was getting to me - the fact that she said it was a clear. Plus the other results showed up the faults in brackets after the times and hers didn't.

Hmm, strange!
