the open made it onto horse and country last year, i know this cuz i was in the crowd and my sky+ box kindly paused it for me to show everyone lol!!! although it gets shown months later
I'd love to see more show jumping on TV, but the PR machines behind football, rugby, cricket, F1 etc are well oiled and powerful.
I know a lot of horse shows have to pay for their TV coverage, and in the current climate, particularly with sponsorship losses, they just don't seem to be able to afford it this year. I don't know if this is the case with the British Open, but I can't find any listings for it on HCTV or Sky Sports.
I've been wondering about the lack of equestrianism on TV for a while. Should we be trying to make our riders celebrities? Is it this that has made other sports so much more marketable?
