Ok...so I was waiting to see if anyone posted on here about the way that last week the BHS assimilated BRC without consulting either the BRC National Executive committee...nor indeed the membership....

So far nothing posted so thought.....what the heck .....what are your opinions?
Below is the statement sent to all BRC members by email......those who do not have email I hope have had this posted to them.

There is a FAQ's that goes with this is after the letter.

Dear BRC Member

Today is the start of the future development of BRC as we launch the new BRC Advisory Committee, which will be comprised of six members of the former NEC. All 23 Area Representatives will continue to meet twice a year.

All organisations evolve and develop over a period of time and The British Horse Society and British Riding Clubs are no different. Everyone will have a recollection of a charity changing its name to fit the modern world or of an organisation restructuring its board and terms of reference to meet the demands of delivering quality services to its members. The BHS Board of Trustees have been working hard over the past two years to ensure that every aspect of the Society’s work is supported by a robust committee structure and we are announcing today the new BRC Advisory Committee. This FAQ document will explain the new structure and answer some of the questions which you may have.

BRC members may be asking how this will affect them and their club. The short answer is that nothing will change. Clubs will still be affiliated to The British Horse Society and will remain autonomous. Every club will have its own constitution and club rules and they will continue to elect their own committee to run their club for them. There will be no change to the payment structure and members will continue to join their club, paying the membership fee direct to the club. The BRC Area structure will also remain unchanged. BRC will organise the six Championships which take place each year and these will continue to develop and grow. Training will always be a hugely important part of BRC and we hope to introduce many more training opportunities for all members in the future.

It is important to note that while the BRC NEC was not involved in the introduction of the Advisory Committee, this email has been sent out with their knowledge and understanding.

Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of the BRC team at HQ, who will be happy to answer any of the queries which you may have.

Best wishes

Laura Sanger
Head of BRC

Eh? I just read this. I am a member of a riding club and no one has emailed me.

Just skimmed the gobbledegook letter, and it seems to say that nothing will change?

I'm also a member of an RC affiliated to BRC and have not had any emails, nor have the RC I am a member of mentioned anything.. But agree with Red-1, doesn't look like anything is changing?

im a member of a BHS affiliated BRC but also havent received the above email

last year when the BHS split from TREC they said they were doing it to concentrate on their charity work , i wonder if this is the start of them wanting BRC's to set up on their own ?

I did get the e-mail but on the basis that I didn't know what the NEC was or did, and have no idea how the advisory committee will be different I sort of shrugged and moved on. They seem to be saying that everything will stay the same as far as members are concerned.

That goes for me too.

Didn't receive the email and am on the committee of my RC. Don't think anything has changed reading the email which I must say is as clear as mud.

I am a little surprised you are all quite blase about this and that you haven't had the email. The NEC consisted of an Area Rep who was voted on by each Area. My understanding was that They could take your concerns to the NEC Executive meetings and your "voice" could be heard. You could query rules etc, and bring in new competitions, such as the Horse Trials 80 a few years ago.
Now it will be the BHS who run Riding Clubs. The members of the NEC comprised of people with years of experience and expertise in organising and running the Championship, all Voluntarily.
Perhaps you need to contact your Area Rep who will be able to explain more thoroughly. My Area is holding a meeting with a representative from all our clubs to discuss the issue

I think it is lack of knowledge of how BRC was run, it certainly is in my case. I was not aware of the above.

I think it is brilliant. Anything that brings the BRC into this decade should be welcomed.
We are thinking of de-affiliating this year because the needs of our members aren't catered for by BRC, and the area meetings are atrocious. The whole thing needs an overhaul.

No I am not. And won't be rejoining. If I want to waste my money and be a member of the the BHS I would it join. The staff are awful can't tell you the problems I have had in the past with them. A few years ago I drove to help at a Championship because of the club has to give a member to help policy. To find after a 100 mile drive ( at my own cost) I was not need!

I too didn't receive an email... It doesn't seem like this will be to the detriment of clubs at least. The BHS has always run BRC, it just seems it shall be in a slightly different way.

The issue is about whether areas will have the same influence over the workings of the BRC now...on the face of it it would appear not. I did get the email.

I have yet to discuss with my Area rep their thoughts on this. I think its less clear how members will take issues up the organisational tree.

I will see what else will change...

It might be an idea to contact your Area Rep for a full outline of what is going on. Also a lot of Areas are holding BRC Roadshows at the moment where you can ask questions of BRC staff as well as the views of your Rep.
That way you can make a full and informed decision of how you want to move forward.
