Well, we had our last event of the season today - novice at Broadway. As I got up at 4.30am I seriously contemplated selling the horse and taking up knitting!

Arrived, walked course, got on, horse was flat as a pancake. Warmup was like nothing else, 3 million horses all in one place, went in and he really wasn't on form, and in fact refused to canter right, so two entire movements were not shown! Came out with 44.5 (I think, 44 point some anyway!) - fair enough, I was expecting worse TBH.

Get to SJ - as usual at Broadway they are being obsessive about everyone going in number order, again despite people not being there and the SJ being empty on occasion. So I warm up and go back to say I am ready when they want me, and lo and behold I slot into one of the 'empty' moments! Jumps nicely, again a bit quiet. It was very slippy and he slipped as he came into an oxer, which startled him, he clipped it with his back legs and then had lost a bit of confidence as it was the 3rd fence and the 3rd takeoff he slipped at, so chipped in at the planks to have them too, but clear round the rest.

Off to XC and I decide to take it slow and pull up if he is still feeling flat as he just wasn't on top form. However, he pulled from start to finish and got round clear taking all the direct routes.

So we are home safe and sound, he is on holiday now and we have our qualification for novice two day which is nice considering we've only done 5 novices - 4 of those were good enough to qualify us. Pony now on holiday until November, when he will be taught about how if he dies in the dressage he gets a rocket up his backside, lazy toad!

I felt horribly ill all day today too, no idea why, so am off to bed as soon as I have had dinner - neither of us were on top form today, pony really lacked sparkle and my heart wasn't in it either, so TBH I can't complain that we didn't do very well!

Well done for bothering to go if you felt rubbish! Sounds as though his XC doesn't need working on during the winter! Enjoy your rest

I feel same as you kind of pissed off about not doing better but could not be bothered either. Anyway one mountain climbed in doing novice a huge mountain to climb in being competitive. Oh what else to do all winter except Sj and dressage!!

Thanks Weezy - no, apart from that one blip at Goring he has coped with the step up to Novice admirably well, and in fact that blip taught him how to jump - I will link to the SJ pics when they are up online as it is hilarious - no idea why I am wary of jumping 1.10 when pony is jumping 1.20 over every blinking fence as he hasn't lost any height, but now knows how to fold his legs!

God we really are a right pair aren't we?! Oh well, now we are qualified we can spend all winter and the early part of next season learning to be competitive!

PMSL maybe that's it! I need a kick up the arse really, I have such a nice horse I should make more effort. Maybe I need the Propell Plus rather than him?!

Yay!!!! Qualified and everything. You must be so pleased. We need a celebratory meal.

This winter me, you and Lec, BSJA - we'll run a league.

But you will win and lec and I will moan about being crap....

Yes, was saying to Lec today we need a pub trip, especially now we have reclaimed our lives!

First congrats for qualifying, you achieved your aim, and to do that when feeling a bit under the weather is amazing.
It sounds like perhaps you have a virus, I hope an early night makes it go away..
We had the same problem in the dressage, but the change to prep 14 and equijewel has made him very different, at least he now seems to enjoy it more.
Enjoy the holiday yourself too, and then get the diary out and start planning next season..
I hope you feel very much better tomorrow..

Well done ,we went back to pre novice at Draycott and to be honest found the jumping a bit boring and easy [ I'll pay for that] but after Gatcombe it was a let down but couldn't risk getting points.Roll on next season, going to do an early regional and then just do novice which will be more of a challenge and hope to do an intermediate by the end of the year.
I'm glad you have had a good season , hope to see you next season

WELL DONE!
Brilliant, what a lovely way to finish the season, even if you both didnt feel 100%.
Such an exciting season ahead of you next year now

Look forward to following your progress.

Thanks all, I am properly ill today, have some kind of virus which is making me dizzy and faint - have been asleep all morning and am going back to bed in a second (only got up for some lunch).
