Had a fantastic day out at broadway yesterday with tia, and after a bit of a disaster at keysoe a couple of weeks ago i was feeling a bit nervous about the prospect of 20 faults in the sj again!

As usual she performed a good test, the warm up was packed, with the usual people on wooley ponies powering straight at you in 'medium trot'. She was a bit tense so had to do the test in rising, all went well until teh transition from free walk to medium when she flung her head in the air, then cantered down the center line! scored a 30.5, but still not quite as loose and releaxed as i have her at home so room for improvement!

Then onto the sj, she was flying in the warm up, but in teh arena just got away from me into the double at 5 and had it down going in, and the upright on the related distance following that on 6 strides. managed to get her back together and finished as strong as she started, 8 faults is definatly better than 20!!

Then the xc, it was a bigger track in terms of height and width of fences then she has done at novice before, and the distances in the combinations where built quite short, so i was a bit worried about how she would cope with me not being able to ride her as forward as i usualy do. However, i needent have worried and she flew round with just 3 time, the 2nd fastest time in my section.

We finished the day on 41.7 to finish 8th, an encouraging finish to the season and she is now on a well earned holiday. She has gone from strength to strength this year, finishing top 10 in 2 out of 3 novices, won at PN and went to the PN champsionships. Need to sort out teh sj over the winter, but i am starting a new job with an event rider next week so im sure we get it back together soon enough! Needless to say i am really looking forward to next season now!

Thanks for reading

I just worked it out, and tia has shojumped this year just 12 times. 9 events, 1 bsja, and 2 training session, one of which was last week. Poor girl didnt really stand much of a chance!!

Well done ,wish we had come to Broadway instead of Draycott as that was just a dressage test type course and was a bit small after doing Gatcombe. It has been a good season for us too and looking forward to next year and more chaallenges

Oh well done! I agree the distances XC were very short through all the combinations, and I for one was a bit disappointed - I loved the PN course there, thought it was a great introduction to the level, but I won't be going back as I did not think the novice course rode nicely enough TBH, and it penalised you even if you were spot on to the fences IMO. Real shame as it is one of my fave venues and I'd still encourage people to do the intro and PN there, just not the novice!
