broken back?? help

sorry to post this again. my sisters 8 month foal, got from new forest sales with another one. is currently in a sling with vet advice. has feeling in back but cant stand on legs. she is not keen on spending money xrays, to be honest you wouldnt want to travel the foal have a feeling he will have be pts. anyone any experience of this please.
 
really sorry to hear about this, but as Amymay said have it PTS if that is the veterinary advice, if it is not moving it's back legs there must be spinal nerve damage which I doubt very much will get any better. My thoughts are with you and your sister at this awful time. Lots of hugs x x x x
 
If sister is unwilling to pay for x-rays, then she's unlikely to want to fork out for the veterinary care ponio will require IF his injuries are fixable.
Probably best for all concerned to pts. Poor baby

Horrid thing to happen but I wouldn't even contemplate putting a foal through that trauma, sorry.
They also say your first loss is your best loss which I think basically means what it has cost already will be minor compared to any further treatment, also with the risk it won't get better anyway and will always be a cripple which isn't fair on a young animal IMO.
 
TBH if the vet hasn't said PTS yet and you haven't had any exrays done, then I would bite the bullet pay for the exrays and make sure. At the end of the day you will then know and it will make the decision far less painful for all involved.

[/ QUOTE ] Totally agree with you cazza, I put myself into debt to cover expensive vet bills a few years ago and I would like to think If I was not willing to pay out on things like that I would sell up and not take the chance, some vets bring the x-ray machine out to the yard, hope its better news than you think it will be for the foal, good luck
 
The thing is you can't have the poor little thing in pain - it i such a shame and such a hard decisions to have to make - good luck with it all x
 
Unlikely to have a machine powerful enough for spinal x rays thats portable tho I'm afraid. Hope it is sorted out one way or another so ickle thing isnt suffering.
