Anyone had any experience of a Neue Schule bit breaking? I ride in a Pelham with Waterford mouthpiece. My friend and I had stopped on a hack and she was holding both horses. My horse pulled one way and hers the other. Her reins snapped but my bit broke on the Pelham cheek piece where the mouthpiece joins. I rang Neue Schule who were very sympathetic and asked me to send them the bit. I rang them after a week or so at which point I was told they thought approx a tonne of weight had been put through the bit. Also, what happened wasn't what they considered a normal riding situation. I asked what they considered it to be and now they are apparently compiling a list of what they consider normal riding situations to be. I pointed out that the other horse's reins had broken and that what happened to my bit was unbelievable. I was then told that if your reins break you don't expect a new pair of reins. I pointed out I hadn't asked for a new bit. They were doing further tests on my bit and calling me back yesterday but as yet nothing heard.

Cripes that's not very good! It must be because its a Waterford but actually I think I would expect a replacement! Sounds like they're being a bit awkward really!

Bits do break sometimes. If this was a brand new bit I would expect the shop I bought it from to replace it under the Sale of Goods Act. But if it is an older bit - I'm afraid it is just one of those things.
