Broken bones - rider

I broke my both bones in my right arm, ulna and radius (i think thats the names lol) on 21st Jan this year still not back riding properly, im only playing in the school with my little Exmoor. Im having on going problems with it and hospitals seem to take for ever to arrange an xray!!

Broke Tib and Fib in August 2008, Plated on the outside and a massive great pin on the inside.. eww! Started riding in October, however, my thing hadn't properly healed so I got an infection! So tip #1 - Make sure you're properly healed before you start to begin ;)
If i'd have waited until this, then i would have started riding in November. I did lots and lots of swimming on a regular basis, never had physio as couldn't stand the local hospital, just sorted myself out, however starting to regret it now as I have a lot of problems with my ankle during the winter mainly as the pins rub and on occasion can feel the pin with my hand :o
I wear a knee support as and when i need it on the leg which took the strain during my time on crutches.

Best of luck!

I broke my ankle and foot, and tore all my ligaments falling down 2 flights of stairs and landing on my ankle. Was 4 weeks on crutches non weight bearing and then 8 weeks in a walking cast. I rode (bareback) with the walking cast on.

Then fractured the other ankle just by walking on it - took a week before I went and had x ray and it was fractured. That one was 8 or 9 weeks in walking cast

Both still hurt in cold weather, and I have restricted movement in both. When I had my X rays done, they noticed a bone problem, something about the bones being fused and I was at higher risk of fractures (not sure of medical term, I was off my face on painkillers!)

I wear Ariat boots for most support, zip up ones so I don't struggle getting them on. Occasionally the one I broke worst feels like it needs to crack, and gets a bit stuck and it's the best feeling when it cracks!!

Jon -you are saying all the things my friends would expect me to do...

some people say I should be doing some exercises now for the thigh...

I will see...only 1.5 weeks now till cast off

Start now because otherwise it is quite depressing when they take the cast off and your leg has dissapeared I was quite sad for a while so just the small little exercises make a real difference so start them soon as :D

UPDATE

Cast off airboot on. Marvellous to have a bit more freedom.

leg is a flaky mess though. Have to go back next week and have one screw out - as otherwise that will break when leg gets stronger, this is the one through the ankle bone on inside. I did not tell the Dr that it was prob for the best that come sout in case it annoys my riding boots or spurs!!!

Physio starts Thurs

Excellent news!! Its great when the pot comes off but shocking the amount of dry skin there is and muscle wasteage there is!!

Good luck for the screw removal. It will feel so much better when that is out and not restricting your ROM.

I have appointment with consultant on Monday as I have formed bone spurs on inner ankle that is rubbing on tendon and ligaments so not sure what will happen. My walk is worse now for pain than when I first started walking :(

GOOD LUCK with that

I keep hearing all sorts - which does make you worry. My pal today though said mine looked better than her friends did 4 months after...so lets hope that its a ok.

Well today I had the holding screw taken out and am now weight bearing!! Thank goodness. Have already had two lots of Physio and the next will be more interesting

already feels as though has more movement flexing forward
