any one had any experince with horse who have broken a bone! my horse has fractured his patella bone! (just above the stiffle!) any one have any idea how long it may take to heal and what the outcome will be!! the vet said it should hela and he going for more scans and xrays tomoz! flaming horses!!!

My friends pony had a fracture in the knee last year and Bell treated him, they managed to remove fragments of bone via arthroscopy and a year on after box rest and iwrap (not sure if that is correct spelling) injections, the pony is sound and has been turned out again in a small paddock!

So, depending on where the fractures are, the prognosis can be good

So, fingers crossed your horse should come right, good luck

my horse fractured her stifle after a kick on 28 May last year, she was on total box rest with leg in a huge bandage until september and after taking it slowly she is 100% fit, been back to jumping etc since january. There is still a gap in her bone because the broken bone eats itself away (according to the vet anyway!) and then new healthy bone grows in its place. It will take another year or so for the bone to be fully fused but doing exercise (once the vet says that is ok) helps it to strengthen. dont despair, im sure your pony will be fine, it is just the initial period while it heals that takes time. sending you lots of good vibes! x

Hey, my mare was kicked in the field last year and broke her splint bone. She had box rest for nearly three months (the break took a while to heal up) and x rays in between to monitor. After two months, the vet told me to introduce ten minutes of walking daily working up to an hour within a few weeks to help get the ligaments stronger as she had not done anything for so long. She now has a lump of bone over the break where it has healed up.

It takes a long time and the vet said its just a matter of being patient and waiting for the bone to heal.

Hope you get on okay.
